Jason Momoa? The actor who acts just like Jason Momoa in every film? Now you're just tolling!

He was excellent in the title role of that Disney cartoon about the Polynesian village.

Uhhh, which cartoon was that? Did you just mix up Jason Momoa and Dwayne Johnson somehow?

Momoa? Moana? Piff, whats the diff?

Not at all. I distinctly recall a Disney film where Jason voiced a little girl, the daughter of a Polynesian chief. The posters said “Jason: Moana”

Finally saw this on the Big Screen and was overall impressed.
Very well mounted and suitably epic, when it needed to be.
The story is very political and full of treachery and mystical omens and DV seemed perfectly suited to it.
Unlike the messy, rushed, all-over-the-show Lynch version, this one had time to breathe and flow much better.
It's well cast (I liked all the players in their roles) and looks (generally) fine (I don't like the way Den-Vil lights some interior shots...much like in ARRIVAL...they're way too murky).
The FX are very good and it's edited well and flows quite nicely (although I didn't like the sloppy/hasty opening credit technique which just seemed to throw the title up there for a second or two).
I did find the first half of the film to be much stronger than the second half, but I was always engrossed and never bored (a first for me and Den-Vil).
And oh my...all those STAR WARS call-outs! Lucas should hang his head in shame.
Zimmer's music worked well IN THE FILM and sounds like a naturally organic part of its world.
But I'd never want to listen to it away from the film. It's just not 'my kind of film music' in that respect.
And yes, it was hella loud at times!!
I'm glad that Part 2 has been greenlit, as I look forward to seeing the rest of the story unfold.
I'd say...7/10 (but I wouldn't recommend (trying) to watch it on TV, unless you've got your own Odeon).

Just tried to watch this; it looks like a filmed graphic novel. I watched with subtitles and was amused to read the music titles [tense music, eerie music, etc.], but it all sounds the same.

My verdict:
Too much sand, not enough spice.

Opinions appear to be just about unanimous as to how much better than Lynch's this new film is, but I certainly don't see (or hear) thirty-eight years worth of improvement.

If Lynch had had the same luxury of time, technology and control that Villeneuve had the question of whose "vision" possesses actual artistic and dramatic merit would be undisputed, because without the shiny VFX, Dune 2021 is a shallow, listless affair.

The funny thing is, the entire filmography of Denis could be described in that one word, lifeless.
It is the central mood and experience his films evoke, death. His films are turgid, intentionally. It is his whole style.

I very much liked Prisoners, which is a really underrated thriller. But the rest of his output feels like Chris Nolan's bedwetting attempts to copy Kubrick. The thing is they don't engage the intelligence of the audience - nor could they, as they're not and will never be Stanley Kubrick - and so we're left with these technically well-made films that amount to boring set pieces.

Well stated, that is exactly how I see it

I really like this phrase.
