Ref: QR460 Availabilty: IN STOCK Categories: CD Limited edition: 2000 units Availability date 10/29/21 Quartet Records and Studiocanal present a straight reissue of the 2-CD set of Jerry Goldsmith’s Academy Award® nominated noir score for Paul Verhoeven’s classic erotic thriller BASIC INSTICT (1992), starring Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone. For his second collaboration with director Paul Verhoeven (after TOTAL RECALL) Jerry Goldsmith composed one of his most famous and iconic scores—atmospheric and sensual, elegantly orchestrated, with a memorable main theme reminiscent of Bernard Herrmann. At the time of the film’s premiere, Varèse Sarabande issued a 45-minute CD produced by Goldsmith himself—a great presentation of the score’s highlights. Ten years later, Prometheus Records released an expanded version, with much of the music presented in film order, but still missing a pivotal moment and several alternate takes. This release includes all the music recorded for the film, with correct edits, original cue titles, “An Unending Story” as heard in the film, and alternate takes recorded by Goldsmith for the shorter R-rated version of the film. Also included is the original album produced by the composer, featuring some slightly shorter cues and an alternate ending. The music was recorded in London with Jerry Goldsmith conducting The National Philharmonic Orchestra. Both the film score and the original album have been entirely remixed and remastered from the original digital multi-track tapes by original scoring mixer Bruce Botnick. Produced by Neil S. Bulk and Botnick, the album includes in-depth liner notes from film music writer Daniel Schweiger in a lavishly newly designed 20-page full-color booklet. DISC ONE: THE FILM SCORE 1. I think THE BLUE MAX is overdue a new release. I'm just kidding!! Seriously, although I'm happy with the BASIC INSTINCT I already bought, I know this is absolutely awesome for those who missed out on it last time or wanted it on vinyl. Cheers

This great score deserves to be in print forever and ever! BTW, Goldsmith deserved the Oscar for this one.

Well, at least KeV got it... To quote Steven Martin's character from "Sgt. Bilko": "Look at my eye -- it's winking."

I think THE BLUE MAX is overdue a new release. I'm just kidding!! Seriously, although I'm happy with the BASIC INSTINCT I already bought, I know this is absolutely awesome for those who missed out on it last time or wanted it on vinyl. Cheers 1992 was a good year for scores. Alien3, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Far and Away, Sneakers, Basic Instinct, just to name a few. I agree that this should have garnered a win for Jerry but I could cite 4 or 5 other scores that also should have netted him the statuette but didn't. We have to stop using Oscar as the benchmark for excellence in film music.. It's an organization comprised largely of voters who don't know squat about the function of music in cinema.

I've seen more than one person on this message board call them "linear" which is why I posted that. And you guys need to quit your day job if it is in comedy. It's not working for you. James
Show us on the doll where the linear notes touched you. Go get a cookie, count to one hundred, come back and find it in your heart to have a laugh and say your sahweezs.
