Ludwig Göransson (Black Panther, Tenet, Creed, Venom, Community) has been tapped to score the upcoming animated feature Turning Red. The film is directed by Domee Shi (Bao) and features the voices of Rosalie Chiang and Sandra Oh. The movie revolves around a 13-year-old girl who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited and her over-protective, mother who is never far from her daughter. Lindsey Collins (Finding Dory, John Carter) is producing the Pixar Animation Studios production. Turning Red is scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide on March 11, 2022 by Walt Disney Pictures.
I am very glad Ludwig Göransson is scoring this, even though I'm sure others will wish Hans Zimmer was scoring it. I think this kind of project will be very fun for young Ludwig.
Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for Pixar Animation Studios’ Turning Red. The album features the movie’s original score composed by Academy Award and Grammy Award winner Ludwig Göransson (Black Panther, Tenet, Creed, Community, The Mandalorian). Also included are the film’s original songs written by Grammy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated songwriters Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell and performed by the fictional boy band 4*Town (Jordan Fisher, Finneas, Topher Ngo Grayson Villanueva & Josh Levi). The soundtrack will be released digitally and physically on March 11 and is now available for pre-order here. Visit Amazon to order the CD version. A first song (Nobody Like U) is already available to stream/download now. Also check out the companion lyric vide after the jump. Turning Red is directed by Domee Shi and features the voices of Rosalie Chiang and Sandra Oh. The movie follows a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. The film will premiere on March 11 on Disney+.

Yes, the blurb I quoted from FilmMusicReporter says March 11th right in it
Right, but you edited your post to remove the misleading line about it being available for purchase wherever it is the next day; ie., the link to New Zealand's Apple music store.
I wanted to like it, even if only because the idea of being able to buy a new score on CD is quite exciting these days! But... I really don't like it either. It's annoying that this gets a CD release, but 'Raya' and 'Jungle Cruise' don't. I guess that's the power of having Billie's brother provide some songs.....
I must say ,I kinda like this approach and I can see how well it might actually serve the picture. It´s 80ies ..manga...yet different.I can also see, why some here might "hate" it. It´s kinda fresh in my opinion..and yes ,-being an ORCHESTRAL GUY-..I usually am not into these kind of scores. But this one has something to it and it seems to be spot on. The movies are trying to appeal more to asian viewers ( chinese esp.) for without them, we probably won´t be able to have productions in such a high budget anymore.
It's clear that when LudwiG isn't gonna be riffing on Bill Conti styled brass furies, like in CREED 1 & 2 and BLACK PANTHER, he's gonna be a more unconventional film composer, drawing on the many diverse styles from his song/production background. Even BOBA FETT was a left turn from what many of us were probably expecting, using his Scandinavian heritage to draw upon that soundscape. The JaP-Pop beat beat of this one is different for a big Disney/Pixar film, but there are more traditional score moments to be heard as well, alongside a modern groove/synth beat. It's certainly a bit 'all over the place', especially after one listen. The manga-pop theme is quite catchy after hearing a few renditions of it. I dunno, this might be a bit of a 'grower' score.
This is a nice cue...
And I'm sure I heard MERRY CHRISTMAS MR LAWRENCE in there somewhere!!
Think the opposite. Score is spectacular, it combines amazingly with the movie, but it stands as well on its own. And also love thaaaat Nobody like U boyband song.
In these days really love to jump from classics (Western Jarre or French crime Morricone) to this Goransson 80-90s pastiche.
