It's amazing how fast these things happen. Last Thursday it was reported that there could be some shortages at petrol stations due to a shortage of delivery drivers, & as I was near empty, I went out next day & filled up. I went out about 9.30am & there was some cues, but I was back home in a quarter of an hour, but by the afternoon it was very long cues & on Saturday it was bonkers. This driver shortage has been going on for ages & the government should really have been proactive, a few tweaks here & there could have improved the situation, & it really has very little to do with Brexit. The newspapers are trying to create panic reporting empty shelves in supermarkets, which is rubbish, I shop in them all the time.

Being an old crumbly, I can remember the seventies, three day working weeks, the power (& TV) going off at 10pm, real petrol shortages. This really is a phony war, & the media is now trying to whip up panic for Christmas - nothing in the shops!! Don't fall for it.

All brought on by 24hr news and the internet. In theory people should be more educated and well informed, instead its a black hole of sensationalism and misinformation.

You don't know a crisis unless you lived thru "The Great Toilet Paper Shortage" crisis.

Made me chuckle....

Went out last night at midnight but only two 24 hour petrol stations were closed, empty.
However, queued at asda, 8 cars approx at pumps every 4 ish minutes, restricted to 30 quid, took me 25 mins in queue. Not bad.

I had a third of a tank but needed to fill up in readiness for a longish trip on Friday. Queued for about 20 seconds at a supermarket last night, the only hardship being that I had to pull the hose over the top of the RAV because I still think I’m in the Passat and found the filler was on the wrong side.

Storm in a teacup, the whole thing.

As this is a lot of hype I'm having some fun with Muppets. I'm driving around looking for a long queue. I then queue for as long as it takes. When I'm next I drive off waving two fingers, shouting obscenities. Such fun.

I sort of did that the other day. I was waiting for a bus & it was 20 minutes late, so when it came I thought, sod you, & didn't get on it, & walked. That showed them.

... Storm in a teacup, the whole thing .... A lot of hype ... et al.

If only!

We have two cars (lucky us!) and one has just gone to be serviced ... 85% full tank ... whilst the other is now at around 20%. As this second vehicle is diesel I know I shouldn't let it run dry so thought I'd look to add a few litres when we visited the supermarket this afternoon.

On Sunday mid-morning we had to queue around the roundabout to access the road into Morrison's (we hadn't planned on getting fuel); today it was clear ... the filling station was closed! Similarly the filling station next door ...

I have sufficient fuel to drive back to the car dealership where my other car is being serviced, and a few more miles, but that gauge which shows 120 miles to empty is misleading ... it drops quickly especially with short journeys.

We don't drive many miles these days and the last time each car was filled was approx. 3 weeks ago.

We shall manage ... I feel sorry for those who are more than inconvenienced by what is media frenzy ... apparently.
If only.

Mitch, its real now, BUT media started the nonsense in the first place with their usual scaremongering with no regard to the consequences - ergo it means theres not enuf fuel to go round because what could still be at the filling stations is in people's cars already and most of it wont be used for weeks. So its mental during the day and then closed at night because their pump tanks are empty frown

So true. They start a dumpster fire and walk away and let everyone else deal with the damage. So many people are easily frightened by the slightest hint of a shortage. When did Costco's Kirkland paper towels become so valuable? Our local Costco can't keep them on the shelves. Yes, there are shipping issues for sure but a Costco associate told me on Monday that people are lining up in the morning and cleaning them out and then ask about the next shipment date. Crazy.

I don't agree ... I don't believe anyone in the media has that influence. But whether you or I are right is irrelevant ... we are where we are (as they say) and the incompetence of those in control (hah!) knows no bounds. If this (media) story has no grounds then it should have been stopped a week ago.

Had to fill up yesterday. Local supermarket petrol station. No real problems. A few pumps had yellow markers but there was only one car before me.
