Looks like that after his work with DC John Murphy is preparing to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe with James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" 3rd movie. I wonder if that means that Murphy will replace Tyler Bates as a new collaborator of Gunn? Doubtful, as James choose Kevin Kiner and Clint Mansell as composers for his "Suicide Squad" spin-off "Peacemaker". Not gonna lie, Murphy and DC or Marvel is that combination I thought cannot be possible, but now it's reality, and I'm more than happy about it! https://screenrant.com/guardians-galaxy-3-composer-john-murphy-confirmed/

I actually enjoyed Tyler Bates scores in both films. They were thematic and well done. Curious as to why he's not coming back for the third installment.

Nothing against Murphy and I’ve never been a huge Tyler Bates fan… but I’ve liked his previous work with James Gunn and I’m a bit disappointed he won’t be finishing this trilogy with a unified musical sound. Yavar

A falling out between Tyler and Gunn?. Who knows. A pity, in any case, given that Gunn had been collaborating with Tyler since almost the beginning of his career as a filmmaker. First he stopped working with Snyder. And now this.

Or has he decided himself to focus on other stuff?

Never heard anything from this Murphy dude...have to check first. He is the author of one of the most famous compositions in industry - "In The House - In A Heartbeat" from "28 Days Later" and "Adagio in D Minor" from "Sunshine". It's hard to count how many times these two tracks was used (and continue to be used) in any media or anywhere else, and how many compositions was inspired by these two pieces. Sometimes people even don't know a thing about composer but heard one of the tracks.

To me, he's deffo more of a band guitarist than a film composer. His themes...melodies...chord progressions...whatever, are what I liken to a laid down track of a song. Obviously, with technology and whatnot, he has certainly developed a knack for creating film scores that directors, producers and temp editors really like. And yes, those two pieces are now seminal works in film scoring (or certainly trailer scoring) for the past two decades. I think he's very close to me, in age and geography (he's a 56 year old Scouser, I think). If only I'd have picked up a guitar in school, or shortly after...

I've watched both '28 Days Later' and Sunshine'in the cinema recently. Both have John Murphy scores and he delivers for both movies. I'm not a fan of Guardians Of the Galaxy but suspect Murphy can and will do the business for the series.

Murphy also scored Gunn's Suicide Squad, and I think the Peacemaker series as well, so he seems to be Gunn's new go-to composer. I wonder if he had a falling out with Tyler Bates? It does seem strange that Gunn hasn't brought him back for GOTG 3.
