His daughter Kirsty just posted about it on Facebook. He had been ill for some time.

So many great library tunes.

Probably my favorite, from the KPM library --

Raver...just what his daughter became, 25 years later...

He was the credited composer on ARTHUR C. CLARKE'S MYSTERIOUS WORLD.
Can anyone point to the library track used as the Main Title?
All the cues in the show seemed to be other-worldly, mysterious, sustains that would be unobtrusive under narration.

Sorry to hear of his passing.

His library piece "The Speed of Sound" was used (starting at 0:30) for this fabulous Grindhouse-style trailer of Star Wars:

Yay. First one, the "and all because the lady loves.... MIlk Tray" ads. Precisely what I was thinking about popping on the thread about Bond music that never actually featured in Bond.

Very sad, the music of my childhood in the early seventies. Wonderful composer of lasting melodies.

Ah, sorry to hear it. Probably THE most famous library music composer out there (I saw a documentary years ago that charted this particular British music scene -- there was obviously a lot of Hawkshaw in it). I'll set aside some time to listen to the suggested tracks here later on.

Sad news indeed, the immortal Countdown, timeless Grange Hill and for me the Channel 4 News theme which appeared on the trailer for Eastwood's "Pale Rider".

I was 10 when that film came out and when I saw the trailer back then and heard that music, I thought "that film has a great score" Then I saw the film the following year on pristine VHS and wondered "Where is that great music"?

Well, I was 11 then...

RIP Alan, thanks for the Pale Rider trailer music too!
