What are you Top 3 John Barry cues? Here's mine:

1) Goldfinger - "Arrival Of The Bomb And Count Down" - heard when Goldfinger and Pussy Galore arrive at Fort Knox with the bomb by helicopter, the tone has that sense of danger when they arrive, but explodes into orchestral violence when the U.S. Army arrives, and the ticking effect from the percussion adds a sense of urgency when James Bond tries to dismantle the bomb, only to be stopped by the bomb expert, at which point the counter reads "007" (in sume prints of the feature film it reads "003" to which Bond quips to the expert, "What kept you?" and says to Felix Leiter, "Three more ticks and Mr. Goldfinger would've hit the jackpot!").

2) "On Her Majesty Secret's Service" - "Ski Chase" - the main theme is given an extensive workout when Bond escapes from Piz Gloria, and becomes ominous when Bond kills one of Ernst Stavro Blofeld's minions.

3) "The Lion In Winter" - "How Beautiful You Make Me" - a haunting piece of scoring when Eleanor Of Aquataine ponders her future, built on chorus and orchestra.

1) King Kong - Montage....The great love theme gets the full orchestra treatment here.

2) The Black Hole - Six Robots....The mournful strings as Dan walks through the crew quarters inside the cavernous Cygnus.

3) Dances With Wolves - Two Socks at Play....Great theme. Nuff said.

I'm going to exclude James Bond cues - otherwise all three choices would probably be from that series.

- The Last Valley: Main Title Theme 2
- The Tamarind Seed: main title
- Passion Flower Hotel: "What a Question!" (It didn't look like stage musicals were forbidden from this query.)

honorable mention: Midnight Cowboy from Moviola.

(A month from now, I'm sure I could come up with different choices. Too many good cues!)

#1 Thunderball from the 1965 OST (tr.B1 of the vinyl LP) ... simply my favourite piece of music

#2 The Last Valley from the 1971 OST (tr.B2 of the vinyl LP) ... when they lower my coffin that's the piece which will be playing smile

#3 ... this is where it becomes difficult with so many to choose from. Perhaps, today:

Home Again; Things Are Going to Be Slow from Now On. from Frances (1982)

Lead in cue to Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The one where Bond is chasing the girl, Diana Rigg, on the beach and loses her. That cue leads into the opening title.

Ridiculously difficult!

And I'm going to pick cues, NOT album tracks unless they were actually used in a film, and all are selected not just for their musicality but also for placement in the film.

1} Chinon--Eleanor's Arrival from The Lion in Winter. Pure bliss.

2) Joe Buck Rides Again from Midnight Cowboy. One of JB's most underrated cues, from somber to escalating joy and triumph--elegance that counters a quite comical scene. Also, would have made a great traditional western theme.

3) Doors and Bikes and Things. JB is not known for comedy scores, but The Knack is a classic. This is a hilarious cue.

In no particular order...

Flight into Space (Moonraker)
Hot and Heavy (The Black Hole... I've been waiting to get this cue for DECADES)
Chinon/Eleanor's Arrival (The Lion in Winter)

Honorable mention: all his love themes
