I know it seems expensive, but is it really for what it offers?

Well, it is all relative to how many scores you already have. For me it is just a very expansive playlist.

I 'ummed and ahhed' about the first set, because of how much stuff I already owned vs the amount of stuff I didn't.
I think I made a promise to myself that if I ever saw it drop to around £60 on Amazon or eBay I'd pick one up.
But it never did (I think it fell to around £75 at its lowest).
I can see the same thing happening with this one.

Mine arrived today from Amazon France. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but I'm happy with the purchase, which took just a few days to arrive in Brooklyn via DHL Express. Cost $115, "Morri-" Christmas to me.

Today 115 dollars equals 100,50 euros. I paid mine 95 euros in a French record store (and in another one the price was 104 euros!), meaning no shipment involved. It's almost the same. So if it's unaffordable, it's not due shipment. It can be regarded as expensive and many people don't have that amount of money to spend, but it's good value for money because, like I said, it's 14 (great) CDs. It's almost the price I paid for the lalaland Disaster box set which contained a third of this number of CDs (I know Lalaland can't be compared to Universal, but in that case, it was shipment that really was a huge weight).

Finally gave up on ordering this from Amazon UK. Originally ordered at the beginning of December, but everytime it gets to the delivery date, I get an email saying that the set is postponed for another 3 weeks. Last one came Friday and informed me that the set wasn't available until March. I cancelled the order and reordered from Amazon France. The Morricone set arrived today. I paid vat and postage, total cost was £82.00, which is £40 less than Amazon UK are charging. I wish I'd ordered from France in the first place.

I think there is a problem with distribution which Universal has had now for several years - and it has been getting worse since the pandemic. They constantly announce box sets which are then available in certain countries for a certain period of time, but stock is soon depleted. I really can't say if they are now pressing less copies to be on the safe side or if it is really a logistic problem due Brexit and/or the pandemic. The same problem occured with the Herrmann box set - and with literally everything Eloquence releases these days.

A particularly absurd case is their Jessye Norman box set which they now keep pushing from year end to year end. I'm not sure if any copies of this have ever been shipped out to customers. What I know, however, is that they have meanwhile produced the John Williams box set and have included his two albums with her in that one. It's really odd.

What is even more odd is those de Roubaix and Gainsbourg vinyl box sets that they have produced. Are they really expecting international customers to buy something that costs £40 just in shipping for only a few inedits?

It's a real pity that several members of this board can't order this set for whatever reasons.

It's indeed a superb object, richly illustrated. The music has been carefully selected and sequenced from ca 85 movies, including THE SCARLET & THE BLACK which is a true stunner. By the way, I like what the Maestro himself said about the main theme of this score : « In my whole career, I rarely succeeded so well in combining the martial and the religious ». (from the introduction, page 6). This theme gives me goosebumps whenever I play it. This great war score was long overdue on CD.
Also, the inclusion of LE CLAN DES SICILIENS' genuine film version main title is a pure delight. There are also great bonus in the 14th volume.

I really hope those who managed to get it are enjoying this fantastic tribute to the Maestro, which is exploring so many aspects of his career.

Hi Laurent,
Yes I do agree about the excellence of The Scarlet and The Black. Its been a long wait for this marvelous score to appear on CD. I am particularly enjoying the last track Morricone's Tribute to Monsignor O'Flaherty. Wonderful uplifting music and this listener can sense that Morricone's heart was truly in it!

Any chances for a VOLUME 3 ?

I would love a volume 3.

These first 2 collections are my most prized possessions, and has inspired me to create my own full set of playlists for Ennio, to include sets/excerpts from movies that hadn't been included on these sets, like Dangerbig griniabolik, Grazie Zia, Kill The Fatted Calf, Un Breve Stagione, The Cat O' Nine Tails, Scusi, facciamo l'amore?... to name a few, as well as some classic tunes/themes that no Morricone set should be without, such as Belinda May, Dal Mare, Il Cielo In Una Stanza and Se Telefonando, both by Mina, and Adonai from Garden of Delights.

I would have dedicated about 4 discs to his psychodelic, b-movie soundtracks and giallo thrillers between 67-74, as this volume only had 14 discs compared to the first having 18.

I'm not complaining too much though, these sets are marvellous, and am just hoping for a Volume 3 sometime.
