There are many Nino Rota scores that I love, but this is one of the top two.
"Death on the Nile" is a very good film with an all-star cast, filmed on location amidst the splendors of ancient Egypt. There is drama, humor, suspense and mystery...and all accompanied by a cracking great score. In this Poirot tale, Peter Ustinov takes the role of Hercule Poirot. He is not the Poirot as described by Christie in her novels, but he plays it to the hilt and makes Poirot his own. Bette Davis, David Niven, George Kennedy, Mia Farrow and Maggie Smith are also among the cast.
This 1978 film received one Oscar nomination -- for Best Costume Design -- which it won
Here is a suite of the themes from the soundtrack.
I’m surprised there was no commentary on this score, perhaps it’s not too widely heard? This is a grand work-a combination of dramatic instinct and accomplished compositional intelligence. The definition of a great film score.
Great movie and great score. My introduction to Nino Rota. He re-used some themes from earlier Fellini movies in it. I think this should remain permanently in the catalogues. We've had three CD re-issues (two of them glaringly omitting "I've Got A Feelin' You're Foolin'"), but I think there is still enough demand to warrant another pressing. I'd go for it if it would include extra music - or would just restore the mentioned track where it belongs.
Terrific score -- I love main title / theme, which evokes both the propulsion of a stream-powered boat, and the anticipation of going on an adventure.
I still have not seen the film I have to admit -- I bought the album on the strength of the end title (which I accidentally came across when channel surfing about 20 years ago!).
It's a gorgeous-sounding album too -- John Richards is one of the greatest engineers ever (and wrested some fabulous recordings out that very uncooperative room at CTS Wembley).
I liked the movie better than Orient Express and loved the score, one of my favorites from Rota.
Waiting for the Doyle score as I liked his Orient Express score.
So did I . I missed it in 2017,but I found a sealed copy of it at Amazon about a month ago at a reasonable price. Doyle's DEATH ON THE NILE should be out in early 2022 to coincide with the film's release. Hopefully, there will be a CD release.

I am really hoping a label will re-issue this, it is OOP and has been for a while, maybe Quartet Records. A great score.
The Rota album contains some source pieces not written by Rota. And it could be, that he didn't arrange them either.
We discussed this score briefly when David Wishart was still alive. He produced the first reissue on CD in the 1990 (paired with Murder on the Orient Express). At the time, it seems, Wishart wasn't aware of the fact, those source pieces aren't Rota's compositions.
The dramatic score is very operatic and sort of a inside joke in this sort of 'overcast' extravaganza. I wonder what he really thought of it.
