To those interested in this composer, the release date of the new box has been announced: 21th January 2022:

https://www.fnac.com/a16439314/Vladimir-Cosma-Les-Introuvables-Volume-4-Coffret-CD-album

A pity Cosma included several items already released such as LES FABLES DE LA FONTAINE or his album in collaboration with Chet Baker, as well as PETIT DEJEUNER COMPRIS and POURQUOI PAS NOUS ? (both having been released by MBR) but there still will be a lot of interesting stuff. I for instance recognize on the box VOLPONE, a top rare LP from the early 70's (a non soundtrack album) as well as several TV scores such as LA MAIN ENCHANTEE, LA MER PROMISE, MEDECINS DE NUIT, etc. Can't wait.

Enjoy
Laurent

Other titles I managed to decipher on the box are: LA DERNIERE BOURREE A PARIS, LA RAISON D'ETAT (both unreleased save for a single), LES GRANDS SENTIMENTS FONT LES GRANDS GUEULETONS (available as a EP only), DRÖLE DE SAMEDI (released on LP only) and SAM & SALLY (already released by Cinefonia on CD and I alas doubt there will be anything new).

Great news. I have all the previous boxes and while I've already had many of the included stuff before they were always worth the purchase.

I am also interested and have the previous boxes. However I don't have many ( about 2) Cosma outside of the previous boxes. So should be a winner.

Great. I know that some readers of this board will welcome this box. As I said in another thread, it will be thinner than the 3 previous ones, probably made out of 9 or 10 CD's.

Another title I read is MADAME LE JUGE, a TV series starring Simone Signoret for which Cosma supplied mostly the beautiful main theme (played by the piano). This set will also contain a much more recent score written for a Romanian movie called OCTAV.

Yes, I read the description too fast. 12 CD's indeed, which means a lot of hitherto unreleased material: scores + library music + concert pieces.

Such an insanely productive, versatile and infectious composer -- still active at 81. While I've heard a great deal of his work, I don't believe I have anything of him in physical format. Only digital -- the LES MONDES ENGLOUTIS album (a series and score to which I have a strong nostalgic connection) and LES PLUS GRANDS SUCCESS DE.. 2CD set from 2002, which covers the basics and a little beyond.

But these boxes are tantalizing. If I have all four boxes, am I pretty covered in terms of his output? How much more is there after that?

His cantata and opera unless they are included in this box.

Thanks MD and guys. Thor, I’d say there would be enough stuff left to fill in a 5th box.

Regarding the concert pieces, according to the pictures featured on the box, two of them have been included at least: VOLPONE (‘musique de scène et des ballets’) & LES FABLES DE LA FONTAINE. Here are the links toward the existing recordings :

https://www.discogs.com/fr/release/1819452-Vladimir-Cosma-Volpone
https://www.discogs.com/fr/release/15580654-Vladimir-Cosma-La-Fontaine-Lambert-Wilson-Orchestre-De-La-Suisse-Romande-Fables-De-La-Fontaine

VOLPONE is great, featuring recorder, mandolin, crumhorn, choir, etc very much appreciated by the fans of progressive rock and easy listening for instance. In this piece, there’s a tune that was later to become the main theme of the TV series MEDECINS DE NUIT (in a different arrangement).

I wish Cosma will once release the full version of his Concerto de Berlin (ca 30’) originally written for LA 7ème CIBLE and performed by Vadim Repin in Lyon a couple of years ago. There are other concert pieces such as Obliques that have never been released. The cantata 1209 mentioned by Lokutus is superb (based upon film themes) but the CD is hard to find.

I really hope there is Tang (1971), La raison du plus fou (1973), Les grands sentiments font les bons gueuletons (1973) and La gueule de l'emploi (1974).

Edit: I can see the 7" cover of Tang (1971) on the box set! Also I see that Les grands sentiments font les bons gueuletons (1973) has been mentioned on page 1. Maybe just two tracks for each, but hopefully there is more!

Yes Slint, you're absolutely right: this is indeed TANG, a TV series for which Cosma wrote quite a lot of music. I know he also wanted to include LES GRANDS DETECTIVES (75). Fingers crossed since the latter is among my most requested ones.

As for LA RAISON DU PLUS FOU, I guess it will be also featured. I've seen the movie a few years ago and it contains much more music than the ep. This said, I'm not sure Vladimir eventually managed to spot the session tape. LA GUEULE DE L'EMPLOI (the main theme of which is played by the cimbalom) would be a great addition too.

I hope that with this box they also can do additional pressing (even small one) of first 3 volumes.
Yes, they are still at Amazon, but third one for over €105+ is too expensive, I think.

Well done, Slint. I think all movies included in this set are not represented on the box, by far.

As a possible companion to LA MER PROMISE and L’ADIEU AUX AS, the TV movie L’EQUIPAGE is a serious contender.

LES FILLES DE MALEMORT (signed under the pseudonym of Richard Eldwyn) is very welcome since no such scores for erotic movies has ever been released yet. I wonder if he paired it together with other movies directed by Daniel Daërt.

LA FEMME ENFANT is a monothematic score but a great addition. This theme is truly haunting. As for LA JEUNE FEMME EN VERT, it is totally unknown to me.

It’s obvious that LES GRANDS SENTIMENTS…will be gathered with POURQUOI PAS NOUS? and PETIT DEJEUNER COMPRIS as a tribute to Michel Berny. For this director, Cosma also scored in 1979 a TV movie entitled LES MARLOUPINS (belonging to a series entitled HISTOIRES DE VOYOUS) and I really hope it has been included as a complement and that the TV series BILLET DOUX (present on the MBR CD) has not been repeated. I’ve seen LES MARLOUPINS and located an excellent chase theme in this movie.

Slint, you can add to your list OCTAV (2017):

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4736486/?ref_=nm_flmg_com_4

As far as I know, it will be paired with another Rumanian movie and possibly with other foreign productions. Cosma indeed scored for instance LAAT DE DOKTER MAAR SCHUIVEN, NITWITS, NIGHTMARE YEARS, as well as various Israeli movies at the beginning of his career.

LE COLLECTIONNEUR DE CERVEAUX is also a fantastic addition. I have the movie on DVD and noticed that the score is totally unreleased, save for the theme Floarea soarelui (played on the piano by the main character). This theme must be a favourite of Cosma since it has been featured in several soundtracks, sometimes played by the pan flute, the piano or the strings (LE RETOUR DU GRAND BLOND, P’TIT CON and LE TEMPS DES PORTE-PLUMES). LE COLLECTIONNEUR…has possibly been paired together with LES GRANDS DETECTIVES. At least I hope so.

According to a friend who can scrutinize the tiny reproductions of the film posters better than me, it seems that HELLO EINSTEIN and L’ETE DE LA REVOLUTION are also available in this box. Great news for both TV series since the music has never been released save for the main theme of L’ETE… on a compilation album. Another interesting score written for the TV, LES DAMES A LA LICORNE, however doesn’t seem to be part of it.
