I'd appreciate some input regarding the 2-CD release from 2011 on the Cinevox label of Morricone's DUCK, YOU SUCKER (AKA other things). It's across the road at the vegetable market, just lying there under a lettuce. 17 euros. Worth it? Is this actually the best version out, or are there superior ones (which are not amongst the vegetables, and so I wouldn't be able to get it/them anyway)? The market closes in three hours.

While I'm here, is the Legend release of THE RED TENT (the one from 2004 I think, and the same prog as the LP from the '80s, I think) any good? I think there was a more recent expanded version, but for 15 euros (plus a helping of carrots), does it deserve to be rescued. The market now closes in 2 hours and 50 minutes.

Thanking you!

Get both, the double cd of Giu la Testa is superb, as is the Red Tent.
Enjoy.

2 of Morricone's finest scores in my opinion. Definitely worthwhile. As far as I know Legend released 2 versions of The Red Tent before the expanded one, the second being the remastered version with the yellow triangle in the corner. So hopefully it's that one they have!

Thanks! I think that THE RED TENT is the earlier, shorter pressing, but beggars can't be choosers if it's all that they have in the market. I'd also like if they stocked carrots from my brother's garden in Scotland, but they don't and they won't, so it's no good crying into the cabbages about it

Still half an hour to go before I check out the veg. Comments still welcome.

I'm at the market now. Oh, they have that Lizard's Skin woman in all her 2-CD glory. 19 euros plus a free turnip. Quickly please!

Hi, Graham, my penny's worth ... or perhaps tuppence-worth (given you've asked about two scores) ... both are scores I've purchased more than once. frown

Giu' la testa (A Fistful of Dynamite) (1971):
-Alhambra A8917 ... 11 tracks ... basically the CD version of the original vinyl album
-Cinevox CD MDF 312 ... 12 tracks ... i.e. bonus track at end, a shorter version of the title track ... far better artwork and probably better sound (but I didn't keep the earlier one so can't confirm)
-Cinevox CD MDF 612 (2CD) ... 11 + 15 tracks ... i.e the bonus track was moved to CD2 (tr.13, I think) - nice booklet BUT: due to weight of CDs and booklet the digipak is/was prone to crease or tear. Sound on CD1 was the same as the single release

The Red Tent (1969)
-Legend CD15 ... 8 tracks ... basically the CD version of the original vinyl album
-Legend CD15 ... 8 tracks ... basically the same CD but with a banner reading Digitally remastered ... so I thought it would sound better ... it didn't frown
-Legend CD30 DLX ... 14 tracks, i.e. 6 bonus tracks ... they're nice but don't offer much other than alternates of the gorgeous Love theme

Which brings me to: you'll probably find these two scores too melodic for your taste smile though both have their dissonant cues. In particular the 22' suite (tr.8) on The Red Tent can be a challenge but once cracked it becomes a great listen.

If the market's still open I'd spend the money ... but do check the playing surfaces (they might have been used as hot drinks' coasters ...)
Mitch

Less listenable than the other two. Unless you're minutes. Worth it for the turnip.

The bonus of The Red Tent expanded edition, is that there's a shorter/condensed version of the 22 minute track, which acts as a nice taster of it, without having to endure it for too long.
When I had the LP, you could just lift the needle to hurry things along, but it would be more of a pain on CD.
I love the expanded edition, wherein I've made an LP like version programme, without the 22 minute track, and a bonus edition, which is also great.
But knowing you, Graham, I imagine the sprawling, atonal, morse code track will be loved by you and when it ends you will cry "Is that it!?!? Way too short"

I have some themes and/or a suite from Duck You Sucker, but I have no memory whatsoever as to what it's like.

Is this common practice in Spain to buy soundtrack CDs whilst in the food market?

There's about two decent tracks I think. I never bothered upgrading from one cd of mostly shit to two CDs of mostly shit. big grin

Oh, I just love the two-disc Cinevox Giu' la testa. The first disc is the remastered album & sounding so much better than previous album releases, & so many great tracks on the second CD. The main title on the album disc isn't the main title at all (but it's a glorious cue), the music for the title is on the second CD.
