Haven't seen this mentioned on the board yet and it was a total surprise to me when I ran across it a few minutes ago...

I wonder who is writing the score and how much Goldsmith will be incorporated...

Nice find! Not heard of this. Cool to hear the theme modernised.

Apparently it was on TV yesterday! I hadn't heard anything about it either. Wondering when it will be on again.

Out in the wild I would never have clicked on that, but the things Goldsmith makes me do. Damn him!

The first cue on the soundtrack lists the two main composers from the series even thought you listen and it's Jerry's theme, interesting he's not listed.

On a physical CD release no doubt he'd be mentioned on the back cover with an asterisk or something, but I do wonder how it works (or should work) for a digital album release like this... anyhow I've never heard of the series composers so I'm curious to hear what folks think of the album and whether they treat the Goldsmith theme in any interesting ways.

Gosh, I see this and I think, maybe there will be a release of the original series’ recordings to tie in. And then I remember, oh yeah, that will never happen…

You never know! How many years did Lukas tell us Shamus was lost…and then it was found! Hope springs eternal… and even if the original recordings truly are lost, the Thriller volumes showed that there was a market for rerecordings of Goldsmith TV music. Two discs would certainly cover everything Goldsmith composed for the series, and I’m fairly certain that his work does survive in written form. So who’s for a Waltons Kickstarter? smile

Oh, I would fund a Kickstarter in a heartbeat! And you’re right, Shamus proved anything’s possible… who knows? It could happen.

I'm in! I'm guessing it would require a relatively small ensemble and therefore be somewhat less expensive than other recordings (especially if you're right, Yavar, that the written scores are extant). But of course, what do I know?

My first grade teacher Miss Green was the person who encouraged her student Richard Thomas to pursue acting (at least, that was her version of events). When I was in third or fourth grade, I was in music class when Thomas (then starring as John-Boy Walton) came in to say hi to my music teacher, who had been his as well. I was frozen in shock – it was like he'd come off the television and walked into my real life. I couldn't believe it!

Apparently the producer wants to involve as many of the original cast as possible in new roles, should this pilot be successful and a new The Waltons go to series:

Interesting that he got the original John-Boy to narrate this new version, and making sure to use the Goldsmith theme speaks well of this producer as well… I myself have only seen one episode as yet of the original show (“The Ceremony”) but I rather liked it:

I look forward to discovering the other five unreleased Goldsmith episodic scores for the series, based on the high quality of that one.

Here’s a link to the new score on Spotify… curious how much more Goldsmith is included after the main title:

"... and making sure to use the Goldsmith theme speaks well of this producer as well…"

Indeed; and it was surprising that the end credits with Goldsmith's theme ran UNINTERRUPTED! No voiceovers; no plugs for upcoming shows; just credits ... and the music.

Forgot to update this thread half a year ago when a follow up telefilm, A Waltons Thanksgiving, came out:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt19896418/

At that IMDb link there's a video with Richard Thomas introducing it, and we still hear Goldsmith's theme so I'm guessing it was retained in the score again. I don't see any album for this one on Spotify, though, unlike the 2021 film The Waltons' Homecoming (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14825736/)

I do agree it's super weird that Jerry Goldsmith isn't (apparently) credited on that streaming album, considering how prominent his original theme is...
