This 1980 movie was a surprise from start to finish. Director Richard Rush assembled a magnificent cast to tell the wild story of a manic director shooting a movie in need of a stuntman after the original one dies doing a stunt. Along comes criminal on-the-run Steve Railsback to fill the job when he enters a surreal situation. The stunts were great. Peter O'Toole was brilliant. And Dominic Frontiere's score was catchy and memorable.

A solid movie. O'Toole steals the show, its one of his best performances in his entire career. He supposedly based his performance on David Lean.

Did they even have 'Man-Crush's' back then? Oh, yeah. There's a very brief line of dialogue wherein Actor, Steve Railsback seems to be in awe of his new Director, O'Toole. And an Assistant-Director steps over to Railsback and says simply: 'You've got a crush'.
Let's also not forget that Dominic Frontiere WON The Golden Globe for Best Score here!

Though I'm a genre fan, this and Lion in Winter are my very favorite movies, and not just because of Peter O'Toole.

The opening sequence's melding of visuals, sound, dialogue and music is one of my favorite memories of going to the movies.

I've always had a very soft spot for this score, and so glad Intrada was able to release it on CD.

And I have to shout out the wonderful lines throughout like:

"I am the movies."

"Come here to me!"

"There won't be a dry seat in the house."

"A stick of gum, would you care for?"

And of course: "If God could do the tricks that we can do, he'd be a happy man."

Plus the other great tag on the first poster I saw: "You will believe what you will see. And you will be wrong."
