The occasional person I run across keeps in touch primarily with cell phone texting. Is there a reliable non-malware app for PC that can allow me to text like a cell phone?

Thanks Prospero. I'll check it out.

My firm uses TextMagic. Works like a charm.

Thanks, Prospero and Scott (and Warlok for asking)!
How does it appear on your PC when you get a reply?
Have either of you tried Microsoft's TextNow?

Google Voice.

Crap. "Google Voice is not available in your country yet."

:/

After all that registration.

TextMagic folk (perhaps I should *not* have Chatted with them?) made it clear their service is not for personal use. :/

I know - some sort of unlimited text cell thing would probably be simpler.

Sorry about that. I find it very helpful in my profession (education). On the computer, it looks like .... texting. Wish you could use it.

I occasionally text my wife by emailing her number 5555555555@vtext.com and she can text back. (@vzwpix.com can be used for sending text or images.)

Not a great solution, and this is for USA Verizon users, but maybe there are ways for other carriers and countries?
