So it's been said Maesto Piccioni was a bitter sweet but he also did exquisite melancholy. I'll see this celebration out with Folco and Piero with Il Dio Sotto la Pelle. I've been gradually building up to the new Quartet initially with Fratello Mare, then several L'Italia Vista Dal Cielo regions and finally Islam these past days.

That's a heavy day Bill.

I like Maestro Piccioni more than ever and I still have many discoveries to make.

And it is a great score, most similar to Le Altre (1969) and Niente rose per OSS 117 (1968). Actually Ménage à Trois is exactly the same melody as the one heard on Niente rose per OSS 117. I'm surprised no CD label picked this one in the last 20 years.

Addio alexandra is a nice score, gentle piano lounge jazz predominently, with a few organ and flute versions chucked in. Played yesterday actually.

One of the soundtrack labels had indeed reserved ADDIO ALEXANDRA in Sugar´s CAM catalogue already several years ago. But I don´t know what happened during the last few years and why they didn´t release it on CD. Either there were other titles which were more interesting to them or Sugar just closed the doors for this project in the same way they did it for several of Saimel´s projects which the label wasn´t allowed to produce and release on CD anymore, among them for example Piccioni´s PER QUESTA NOTTE.
I suppose that PER QUESTA NOTTE will now also be released only digitally by CAM/Sugar in the next few weeks as one track of the score can already be found on the "Modern Gentleman" compilation..

I've just seen this announcement on SoundtrackCollector :

https://www.soundtrackcollector.com/title/121515/Piero+Piccioni+100+-+Greatest+Soundtracks+%26+Movie+Scores#83125

The artwork is made of a superb painting of the composer.

Piccioni release on the week. We've been lucky recently!
https://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/album/tohe-morta-la-nonna-piero-piccioni/eyroudnq40pwa

They've skipped Mondo di notte n. 2 and Mani in alto, if going in chronological order. Mondo di notte n. 2 was not originally a CAM LP so maybe it is more complicated to release that one?

I'm hoping for Il comune senso del pudore and Per questa notte in the next two weeks!

Sonor Music have also posted a few times about the soundtrack for I TARTASSATI. I'm not sure what are their plans, and if that will be some LP or online release.

I don´t think so. CAM/Sugar and no one else is the rights owner for MONDO DI NOTTE N. 2.
And as one track has already been on their "Modern Gentleman" compilation, they should have all the material for it.

Sonor Music have also posted a few times about the soundtrack for I TARTASSATI. I'm not sure what are their plans, and if that will be some LP or online release.

About two years ago Sonor Music had taken over the old Edizioni Firmamento catalogue - this was an Italian music publishing company which had originally been founded by composer Alessandro Derevitzky at the end of the 50s.
Probably during the mid or late 60s there were various library LPs on the Fonit label (they are so obscure that most of them can not even be found on Discogs!) with such titles as "Caratteristici", "Comici", "Ballabili", "Drammatici", "Epici", "Paesaggi", "Romantici" - there were 3, sometimes even 4 or 5 albums for each of these genres and they included a lot of tracks from scores of the late 50s and early 60s which almost all came from Edizioni Musicali Firmamento.
Piccioni´s I TARTASSATI was also among them and I could at least identify 4 tracks from TARTASSATI which were on a "Ballabili", a "Caratteristici" and a "Comici" LP mostly with fictitious track titles. There were quite a lot of film music tracks by Derevitzky on these library LPs (for example from his scores LE NOTTI DI LUCREZIA BORGIA, LA VENDETTA DI ERCOLE or SALAMBO), but also by many other composers - even famous ones like Lavagnino or Nascimbene.
The second Piccioni score besides I TARTASSATI that Firmamento had - and of which also a few tracks were on these rare library LPs - is ANNI RUGGENTI from 1962. This one should therefore now also be in Sonor Music´s hands if the tapes have survived.
I suppose that they will release one or both of those scores only digitally at some time in the future.

What a genius Piccioni is...

I became a fan of him after the brilliant bonkers Tenth Victim (love my Easy Tempo CD)

and I've binged on Il Dio Sotto La Pelle all weekend and love it - alongside Colpo Rovente

If these are the Piccioni soundtracks that I love - I'd really appreciate some more recommendations

I have
10th Victim
Il Dio Sotto La Pella
Bora Bora
Colpo Rovente
Io So Che Tu Sai Che Io So
L'Assassino

If you love The 10th Victim, then please consider Niente rose per OSS 117 on Beat Records.
The Piccioni sound provided for this EuroSpy item comes closest to resembling The 10th Victim, IMO.

As Stefan had predicted, today's online release is PER QUESTA NOTTE.

As Stefan had predicted, today's online release is PER QUESTA NOTTE.

This very sombre score should appeal above all to people who like Piccioni´s LO STRANIERO as in some tracks the musical mood is quite similar. The lyrical theme which appears in various guises and arrangements in the "Sconfitti" tracks is also a kind of forerunner of his later CRONACA DI UNA MORTE ANNUNCIATA. The old CAM single from 1977 had presented these two main thematic ideas - which I find quite fascinating - on Side A and B which appear in the score in "Dopa la rivoluzione" and "Sconfitti".
I don´t quite understand why CAM/Sugar write this on their Facebook website about PER QUESTA NOTTE: "The complete score was believed to be vanished forever, just like the enigmatic film by Carlo Di Carlo it was composed for."
This is more or less a bit of nonsense as CAM and then Sugar always had the master tapes for this score in their archives since 1977. It had also been no problem when Saimel had asked for the tapes a few years ago. They only didn´t want t to license the music anymore for CD purposes from 2020 onwards - now it´s clear why as their intention is to exploit it only digitally themselves.
I am now anxious to know if CAM/Sugar will also digitally release Piccioni´s CRISTO SI È FERMATO A EBOLI at some time or if this score will not even be released in this way in the future due above all to the rights problems with the co-publisher.

No, Bill, really ALL 18 remastered tracks of PER QUESTA NOTTE are already on Youtube. You have to look around a bit there for them as they are not (yet) in a single playlist. I myself had just listened to all the 18 tracks there a few minutes ago.
