RENFIELD---Nicolas Cage will play Dracula in the Universal Pictures movie that stars Nicholas Hoult as Dracula'a servant, Renfield.

THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS---new photo from the sequel shows Toby Onwumere wearing new technology.

AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS---Guillermo del Toro said he still wants to make his movie based on the HP Lovecraft short story, "The thing with Mountains is, the screenplay I co-wrote fifteen years ago is not the screenplay I would do now, so I need to do a rewrite. Not only to scale it down somehow, but because back then I was trying to bridge the scale of it with elements that would make it go through the studio machinery. I don’t think I need to reconcile that anymore. I can go to a far more esoteric, weirder, smaller version of it. You know, where I can go back to some of the scenes that were left out.
Some of the big set pieces I designed, for example, I have no appetite for. Like, I’ve already done this or that giant set piece. I feel like going into a weirder direction. I know a few things will stay. I know the ending we have is one the most intriguing, weird, unsettling endings, for me. There’s about four horror set pieces that I love in the original script. So, you know, it would be my hope. I certainly get a phone call every six months from Don Murphy going 'Are we doing this or what? Are you doing this next or what?' and I say 'I have to take the time to rewrite it.'"

WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP---remake underway of the 1992 movie that starred Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes.

DISCLAIMERS---Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline will star in this Alfonso Cuaron/Apple TV+ tv series based on the novel.

MAXIMILIAN AND CARLOTA---four-part tv miniseries about Mexican Emperor Maximilian and his wife.

BERLIN---Netflix MONEY HEIST spinoff series will focus on Berlin, second-in-command of the Royal Mint of Spain and the Bank of Spain heists.

TRIVIA---character actor Ed Lauter and former NFL quarterback Joe Kapp appeared together in two movies. In the original THE LONGEST YARD, Lauter played prison guard Capt. Wilhelm Knauer and Kapp played prison guard Walking Boss. In BREAKHEART PASS, Lauter played Maj. Claremont and Kapp played train steward Henry.

In the original THE LONGEST YARD, Ed Lauter played prison guard Capt. Wilhelm Knauer (#10) and Joe Kapp played prison guard Walking Boss (#11).

In BREAKHEART PASS, Lauter played Maj. Claremont and Kapp played train steward Henry.

I remember At The Mountains Of Madness, it was to star Tom Cruise & had a really huge budget, & the studio pulled the plug on it. The new version sound great...if it ever gets made.

The last thing the world needs is Mountains Of Madness adapted to the screen. Lovecraft is something that requires a reader's active imagination, and making something "literal" / visual will only serve to dilute the material. Or as Baudrillard called it "the order of sorcery".

(I also have no love for Del Toro, so that doesn't bode well for me either on a personal level.)

These days I'm feeling a bit bored by HP Lovecraft and the neverending debate about "adaptable" versus "not adaptable" (I'd wager the reason we have so few good Lovecraft adaptations is because his work was never as good as his infinitely more talented successors made it out to be). But if anyone can make a good movie out of At the Mountains of Madness, then that is yet another good movie we can watch and enjoy. A good adaptation of AtMoM would just need to follow suit of Carpenter's The Thing: make it desolate, make it hopeless, cast great actors, spend money on memorable FX that will stand a test of time. Expect a box office failure. Hope for a cult status.

This looks pretty amazing! Can't wait to watch it in Spain. I love Jamie in this kind of role! He's brilliant!
