Anyone else loving this score? I just purchased the Intrada CD (along with Masada):

https://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.12525/.f?sc=13&category=22848

I think it has one of the best themes of John Debney's career. The theme has been playing nonstop in my head for days and I even wake up with it in my head. Ugh. The track "Dog Belongs to Emily" has cracked my top 25 all-time played tracks on iTunes. I wish all of the music had a little more time to flesh itself out instead of all of the short cues.

I don't think John Debney has ever written a bad note of music. Some may consider this score generic, but it's really pleasant with a killer main theme.

Haven't checked it out (or the movie), but being a BIG fan of Debney, I will definitely check it out!

"Elf," is one of my all-time favorite scores, Christmas or otherwise, and you should check out his work on the new Home Alone movie ("Home Sweet Home Alone") - solid re-imagining of Williams' main themes, while still being coherent and breathing some new life by mixing up them up a bit / mashing them.

Thanks!

Definitely worth checking out as a Debney fan. I still can't get the main theme out of my head. I've tried burning it out of my head with AC/DC and every annoying song I can think of (like Gangnam Style). Clifford still pops back. big grin The orchestrations are excellent and make it even more fun and interesting. I hope Debney recycles the main theme for another movie and fleshes it out into a longer 3-4 minute track. Doug mentions all of the highlights accurately on the Intrada website.

I just got the expanded Elf CD in the mail this week and have been listening to it a lot. It is also one of my all-time favorites. I watched the new Home Alone movie, but have yet to listen to the score. It's on my list in Apple Music (John Williams' Home Alone being another all-time favorite score).

With most of the all-time greats being gone or partially retired, I think John Debney is probably the most consistent composer out there. A lot of his scores could be considered generic, but they are never bad. He always throws in a good, infectoius theme. I like any of his guitar heavy tracks as well.

I'd like to acknowledge (and apologize for) a "Big Red" error on Intrada's back tray: The total time is NOT 78 minutes. It is actually 60:21. The root cause was writing over an earlier file and not updating that detail. I wish we had caught it in the proofing process, but we did not. We are certainly sorry for any confusion! Rest assured our Quality Control Gremlins are being sufficiently punished! smile

I noticed that on Monday and sent Jeff an email. Stuff happens. It's not going to ruin the listening experience. I proofread the statutes for my state's legislature and we've had far more egregious errors slip under our radar (including having an omnibus bill vetoed by the governor because one clause ended with an "and" instead of an "or"). Always embarrassing, but everything can be fixed or forgiven.

I'm also a Debney fan and very much enjoyed CLIFFORD. Intrada has my order!

JINGLE JANGLE was a favorite from last Christmas.

Cheers

Well I can't get the sound samples to work. Not by streaming, iTunes or downloading.

Everything works on my end. I wonder if it's a residual problem from the AWS outage from earlier in the week?

Paramount Music posted a lot of the score on YouTube. This is my favorite track (the main thematic material starts @ around 0:52):

If you don't like this track you may not like the rest of the score. Debney molds this theme throughout the score to do whatever he needs it to do.
