Despite this looking like something that most on this board are gonna hate, there are probably a few who'd like this.
"50 years since its release, the original motion picture soundtrack for Hal Ashby’s 1971 classic cult film ‘Harold and Maude’, made up exclusively of songs by Cat Stevens, will be released on 11th February 2022 via Island / Cat-O-Log / UMC. The new edition of the soundtrack will combine Cat Stevens’ 9 original songs, as well as dialogue from the film, for the first time.
Hal Ashby’s 1971 film about the unlikely friendship-turned-love story of suicidal teenager Harold Chasen (played by Bud Cort) and 79 year old free spirit Maude (played by Ruth Gordon) is now widely praised as a bona-fide cult classic. Filled with dark humour and existential drama, the film represents the potentially glorious benefits that can arise from a balanced partnership between conservative pragmatism and colourful free-spirited idealism. It reveals the deep lying synergy that exists between seemingly opposing views and how, when united, they can flourish to their mutual advantage.
The movie’s success and cult status has in part been bolstered by its whimsical and poignant soundtrack, in which all songs are performed by Cat Stevens. Originally not wanting to release the soundtrack in fear of it being perceived as a ‘greatest hits’ album in the early days of his career, film director Hal Ashby had to do some convincing. Having listened to songs from landmark albums ‘Mona Bone Jakon’ and ‘Tea For The Tillerman’ whilst editing Harold and Maude, Ashby knew from the start that he wanted exclusively Stevens’ songs to sonically narrate his film, and after a significant campaign, Ashby won Stevens over and thus, the soundtrack was brought to life."

Hallelujah!!!!! It's getting a CD!!!
The limited edition that Cameron Crowe did a few years back was LP-only. 
I just hope the dialogue is limited to the dialogue tracks. I can't imagine they would be idiotic enough to put dialogue over the songs themselves, the way some 90s soundtracks did.

It blows my mind that people will pay 2x the price for the hissy, poppy, inferior audio of the LP edition.

This may be a dumb question, as I'm not familiar with the label's name, but come February, will there be another announcement here on the board? By that time I may well have forgotten about it. Or will it be available on the various sites such as SAE or Intrada?

My CD has a POP at 0:26 of track 3, "On The Road To Find Out."
It's right as he sings "I left my happy home, to see what I could find out" during the word "find."
Did anyone else buy this CD? Does your CD skip? Is it a flaw in the album master, or is my CD simply defective?

My fear is that it might just be on the soundtrack album master, or even just the CD master.
Does anyone else have the CD? I don't want to go through the hassle of exchanging it at Amazon if they're all like this.

There’s no pop or skip at 26 seconds on Track 3 of my CD. I bought my copy this past Saturday at a local Barnes & Noble.
Excellent news! Clearly just a defect on my CD then and not a flawed disc master.
Back to Amazon it goes for a replacement.

My replacement arrived today.
Very strange.
The pop is still there at 0:26 on track 3, when I listen on my computer, which is where I listen to most CDs, on headphones.
However, when I played the CD in my UHD player, I couldn't really hear the pop.
I'm guessing there's some subtle flaw in the CD master at that point, which a cheap laser like the one on a computer can't make up for, but which a more expensive player can overlook.
I can't think of any other explanation.

I just listened to the replacement disc again on the UHD player, through speakers, and I heard the flaw (not really a pop, more just a gap in the audio). It sounded much more subtle than with headphones on.
I tried again on the UHD player, using headphones this time, and I heard it much more clearly.
It looks like it's a flaw in the CD album master, sadly.

It sounds fine on the MP3 released to YouTube by Universal Music Group. So, I doubt it's on the album master.

I hadn't bothered to listen to the link before, but I did just now.
Actually, the pop is there on the YouTube video too, and this isn't even from the Harold & Maude soundtrack, it's from the album Tea for the Tillerman.
It's much more audible on headphones than speakers. Unfortunately, I use headphones 99% of the time for music and movies, because I live in an apartment.
The pop is right as he sings the word "find" in the lyric "Well I left my happy home, to see what I could find out."
It looks like this pop is inherent in the actual master for the song itself.
Oh, well.
Still a treat to have the Harold and Maude soundtrack on a proper CD after all these years.

I'm listening now, so I thought I'd point out which tracks don't have clean openings:
8 - "Miles from Nowhere" - the first 2-3 seconds have lingering atmospheric background noise from the previous dialogue clip from the film
10 - "I Think I See the Light" - the final second or so goes beyond the track and fades out as a dialogue track starts.
12 - "Where do the Children Play?" - the first thirty seconds, an instrumental portion, all play under a dialogue track by Ruth Gordon, when the lyrics start, the new track begins.
As you can see, it's not possible to simply program out the dialogue tracks, sadly.
It's a shame we didn't just get the 2007 LP on CD.
The dialogue tracks are nice once, but they're not ideal for relistening to the album.
It's such a shame that the songs weren't all separated off as distinct tracks, since they're remastered here, and the two original songs Stevens wrote for the film, "Don't Be Shy" and "If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out," are sourced from newly discovered masters that sound MUCH better than the songs ever have before. Luckily, both of those songs have clean openings and closings on the album.
