Why wouldn’t Waititi bring back Mothersbaugh?

Maybe he liked working with Giacchino on Jojo Rabbit more than he liked working with Mothersbaugh on Thor 3

Maybe he asked Mothersbaugh, and Mothersbaugh declined

Maybe Mothersbaugh had a schedule conflict

Maybe Mothersbaugh decided to retire after almost dying of covid

Because Giacchino is a million times better than Mothersbaugh.

I'm sure our Thor here (I mean Haga) will be ecstatic about this!! wink

Michael will nailed this !

And yes, thank’s God that not Mothersbaugh!

He, he. Yes, the irony of my composer "nemesis" scoring a movie with the words "Thor" and "love" is not lost on me.

Thankfully, I have minimal interest in superhero stuff these days, so he can rummage through those as much as he wants. Just stay out of my beloved ALIEN franchise (one of the last, major franchises he hasn't yet taken over).

It's interesting. Since I learnt about your "disgust" (I know the word is a little extreme) for Giacchino, I found myself getting bored with his recent work. It doesn't feel as fresh as it did when he emerged. I still love some of his themes here and there, but I have to admit the rest is getting redundant to my ears.

I still think he's a skilled composer but, and maybe it's due to him taking too many gigs (like McCreary...), His work sounds more and more hollow.

I'm now picturing characters being chased by xenomorphs to zany, high-tempo Incredibles-style scoring. wink

Mothersbaugh's score for Ragnarok was excellent. Just the thing for the film's 80's influenced blend of comedy, action, and high fantasy. It would have been great to have him back, but as Jason mentioned there are any number of reasons he might not be returning and Giacchino is more than capable of delivering what this film needs.

Nothing against Michael (Except for his Star Trek animated short), but I miss having musical continuity in films that involve the same characters. We do get some in the MCU, but not nearly enough.

It's my first time realizing Mothersbaugh is a man in his 70s

Devo was a shockingly long time ago.

I seem to have some kind of brain malfunction where I can't remember the theme to any Thor.

Mike is a composer of the 2022 already - Batman, Jurassic Park, Thor 4. What a line-up, OMG!

What's funny is the order his 4 newest scores will be released, is almost the opposite of the order they were recorded

Recorded order

1 - Jurassic World 3
2 - The Batman
3 - Spider-man 3
4 - Thor 4

Release order:

1 - Spider-man 3
2 - The Batman
3 - Jurassic World 3
4 - Thor 4

I wish it too, and especially in the MCU. Silvestri seems to be the only "steady" hand in the overall themes.

However, Thor will now have 4 movies and 4 different composers at this point, so the "continuity" isn't really a new issue. smile That being said, I enjoy all of them (in different ways), and felt they served the movie.

Looking forward to seeing what Giacchino can bring to this property, as I do enjoy his work, but Ragnarok was the most fun so far..

I love that this happened, only because I love the previous three scores and like the concept of each installment of THOR has had a unique music voice behind it.

Looking forward to this, hopefully on silver not on CDR! wink

Ok. So another movie for Giacchino. Fine and good. But when will this guy EVER score something that isn't big, broad and genre based? Has he ever scored an intimate or serious drama or adult thriller? Composers like Williams, Goldsmith, Horner, Silvestri, etc, showed that they knew how to score intimate, quieter material as well as the big, loud stuff. I still await to see how Giacchino handles that side of things and until he does he will never rank among the aforementioned composers for me.

So...what you're saying is you haven't looked up his credits on IMDB yet?
