Danny Elfman & Chris Bacon to Score Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ TV Series

Netflix announced today that Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman, Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas) and Chris Bacon (Source Code, Gnomeo & Juliet, Bates Motel) are set to compose the original music for the streamer’s upcoming original series Wednesday. Elfman is writing the theme and is collaborating with Bacon to score the show created by Al Gough & Miles Millar (Smallville, Shanghai Noon) based on the characters from The Addams Family and starring Jenna Ortega in the title role, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams. Tim Burton is directing multiple episodes of the live-action coming-of-age comedy, which charts Wednesday’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy. Goygh & Millar and Burton are also executive producing the MGM Television production with Andrew Mittman (Elvis), Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert,Jonathan Glickman (Rush Hour, RESPECT) and Gail Berman (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Wednesday is expected to premiere in 2022 on Netflix.

Elfman’s other upcoming projects include Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Bryan Woods’ & Scott Beck’s sci-fi thriller 65 and the Disney+ animated series Rhona Who Lives by the River.

Well it should sound good at least... Gough & Millar's track record doesn't fill me with confidence. (PS isn't Pugsley the one needs some attention anyway?)

I like the composer choices here. I also would have highly enjoyed Marc Shaiman.

Same here.

Which reminds me; does anyone know why LaLaLand never put out an expanded release for his Addams Family sequel. The original was fantastic.

My guess is because (like Shaiman’s first City Slickers score) it was originally released by Varese Sarabande and is probably owned by them in perpetuity:

Thanks for the explanation. Glad to hear there's some hope then. I thought it might be tangled up in legal issues or something.

Luis Guzman as Gomez????? Hard to see him as anything but his usual street thug criminal roles. But, good luck.

Luis as Pachanga with Al Pacino in CARLITO'S WAY.

Luis Guzman is an acclaimed and reliable character actor who has been working over 4 decades of film and TV. It's actually very easy to imagine him in roles beyond his earlier days playing ethnic criminals because he has decades worth of other work.

Having worked with Luis, I can also say he is a real pro and an extremely nice guy.

I'm sure Elfman will give the affair an expected amount of macabre. That said, do we really need another super serious aNgStY reboot of something that used to be comic-booky and fun?

Didn't like this at all. I look forward to the music, but everything in this trailer said: SKIP.

I haven't enjoyed much of anything from Burton since the early 2000s but nothing about this trailer was "angsty." It all seemed very cartoon-ish and fun. Whether it is a success or not, remains to be seen. The Addams Family feels like a fit for Burton from a few perspectives but Charles Addams and Tim Burton are two different types of satirists; and Burton hasn't made a successful satire since the 90s.

I love the cast, and especially how well Luis Guzman seems to capture the visual identity of Gomez from the original cartoon strips.

I can't get excited about a Burton project anymore, but Ortega realy is a talent. She's been terrific in everything I've seen her in.

I believe Elfman scored episodes 1, 2, 7 and 8 while Bacon scored 3, 4, 5 and 6.
