... Deciding To Build The Field 5:54 (insert is edited at a different point) Neil I am listening to the album now (thank you for this release!). I'll have to do an A/B comparison but on a first pass, I'm ashamed to admit that I couldn't hear the difference between the two versions of "Deciding to Build the Field." Is there are particular part I should pay attention to? It's very subtle, you'd probably have to look at the waveforms. I remember one of them came in at a different point. My advice is to sit back and enjoy the music and not stress about the tech stuff. Thanks, Neil. I dug into this yesterday. It's entirely a question of timing. The "country rock" section comes in a few seconds earlier. And then the third quiet section is placed a little differently as well. To me it's not one of those tracks where I say "I shall listen to THIS version forever more!" You can play them to me and I bet I couldn't pick out which one it is. Unless I practice. And I'm not going to practice.

It was one of those things where I had them both edited and I looked at it in Pro Tools and I saw the differences. Obviously the album edit would go on the album, and I guess I could have stuck with that for the whole thing, but why not also include the version prepared for the film? It's just as valid. It’s this kind of care and attention to detail, along with a great sense of the music, that makes your work stand out. I’d I see your name on a release, it was done right.

Funny story and apologies if I've told the before. I was in my junior year of college when this came out and I put the new CD in my roommate's CD player which was high up on a shelf. I hit play and hard rock started blaring. A bit taken aback I quickly scanned through each track -- each featuring some pretty hard, hard rock. I was thinking that I should have really seen the film first before buying this album. Then when I reached up to remove the CD, two CDs came out. There was already an Ozzy Osbourne CD in the player, and Field of Dreams was just sitting on top of it. D'oh!

I guess we had room for a few Ozzy tracks on this release. Sorry. But only because there is a second disc!

There’s a lot of this score with wonderful archive clips of James Horner and Phil Alden Robinson talking about the music in my latest radio show if anyone would like to download and listen: https://we.tl/t-rZhXP4pEoj
