SEASON 1:

George Peppard stars as Banacek, a man who helps finds things for insurance companies.

Attention readers: I have been implementing a system that is nothing more than a note to myself; for cues that I want to include in a suite one day, for now on I will denote them with ^ symbol. It has no special meaning to anyone else but myself. No, the lack of an up arrow symbol doesn't mean the cue is bad (it just may have too much SFX or FX for suite use or just isn't worth my time to edit and include). Hence forth this system will be in all future threads and pre-exiting threads that I go back to for missed episodes. Anything in ( ) are just notes to the arrow and you need not bother with that. The system does not mean that I will make a suite or that one has been made, it's simply for my own reference if and when I do decide to.

    By: Billy Goldenberg

    Highlights:
  • 2:34 in. Including dashes of the echo-ing-like trumpet playing idea he used in episodes of "Delvecchio" he scored.^
  • 9:08 in.^
  • 19:14 in.^
  • 21:32 in.^

  • 1:09:40 in.^(open/close)

    (NtM: 42:06)

A new arrangement of the opening and closing credits theme are heard.

Banacek: "Speaking of three million dollars, when do I get my check?"

If Max is So Smart, Why Doesn't He Tell Us Where He is?"

This is the only effort by Jesus for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.^
  • 6:30 in. New arrangement of the series main theme.^
  • About 26:20 in.^
  • 28:37 in.

  • 54:24 in.^
  • 1:11:12 in. Immediately followed by the new end credits arrangement.

What's here isn't necessarily bad on its own, but the score is a misfire. Scenes here are just scored poorly with bad choices made. This is the type of score I'd have rejected.

    "I'm Wanda. You're starring."
Banacek: "It's safer than doing what I was thinking."

    Finishing SEASON 2:

"Horse of a Slightly Different Color"
    By: Elliot Kaplan
    https://archive.org/details/banacek-the-complete-second-season/Banacek.S02E05+-+Horse+of+a+Slightly+Different+Color.mp4

This is the only effort by Kaplan for the series. It is also the final credited score of the series.

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.^
  • 4:22 in.^
  • 7:51 in. New arrangement of the opening credits, in a slightly more majestic sound. Unlike previous composers, Kaplan continues the piece into the scoring outside the opening credits.
  • 26:03 in.^
  • 30:42 in.^
  • 39:43 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(second)
  • 44:22 in.^
  • 52:24 in.^
  • 57:41 in.^
  • 1:00:04 in.^
  • 1:05:32 in.^
  • 1:11:06 in. Immediately followed by the new end credits arrangement.

Banacek: "You know what worries me about your thinking, Jay? Sometimes I can really follow it."

    NO COMPOSERS CREDITED.
The rest of the season was apparently a track job.

    "Rocket to Oblivion"

Banacek: "Pardon me, miss -- I've been noticing your equipment..."

"Fly Me- If You Can Find Me"

"Now You See Me, Now You Don't" (series finale)

That's it. There were no TV movies or spin-off series. Not even a remake. And no talk I can see about a possible remake either. Not that it needs one. Apparently a third season was set to go, but according to trivia on the show's wikipedia page:

Banacek was well received by television critics, and as a result was picked up for a third season. However, before the third season could start, Peppard quit the show to prevent his ex-wife Elizabeth Ashley from receiving a larger percentage of his earnings as part of their divorce settlement. The complication ended any chance of reviving Banacek during Peppard's lifetime.

There is one more thing to mention: The season twenty-nine, episode twelve episode of "The Simpsons", titled "Homer is Where the Art Isn't" (2018), is one long "Banacek" parody, down to -- according to one comment -- the scoring. Unfortunately, this is after the bullshit firing of Alf Clausen, so we got the Zimmer clone factory offshoot Bleeding Fingers Music handling the scoring. A painting goes missing, and a Polish investigator named Manacek tries to find it. Manacek is voiced by Bill Hader.

A Youtube user made a video of cues from the score; it's not just a take on the main theme by Billy Goldenberg, it's the same theme re-recorded:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3K7Kr1mDNs

I couldn't find the episode legally or otherwise on the regular video sites like Youtube. Maybe it's on the FOX channel but it's just hard to find.

    ADDITIONAL, UNCREDITED, STOCK MUSIC COMPOSERS:

  • David C. Wilson. (listed with Goldenberg)
  • Harold Mooney.
  • Gerald Fried.
  • Ronald G. Roullier.
  • Thomas H. Brown.
  • John Cacavas.

There has, of course, been no release of the scoring from the series.
