Quite an impressive (and fully deserved) raft of events, but this one in particular stood out for me as Manfred Honeck is one of my favourite contemporary conductors and the Pittsburgh Symphony (PSO) is a terrific orchestra. It's almost a shame that JW is conducting half of it as I'd love to hear Honeck conducting some of JW's film music. I wonder if this will get a recording as the PSO has its own label and has done a fair number of extremely well performed, recorded and produced albums.
Yes, happy birthday to one of the greats and my favorite composer. It's awesome he's still composing and doing live performances at 90! I wish one of these was near me. I'd definitely go. Missed my chance with Sinatra. I hope I won't with Williams.
Tonight from 7pm (UK time) I’m hosting the final part of Movie Magic’s John Williams tribute show with four special guests who you will be familiar with:
Tim Grieving, Chris Malone, Saul Pincus and John Takis. Each give great and varied insights and it’s a very enjoyable conversation which I hope you’ll appreciate.
Released digitally and on 2 CDs, John Williams – The Berlin Concert is available in a limited deluxe edition (2 CDs + 2 Blu-ray discs), including a breathtaking Dolby Atmos sound mix – both video and audio only – as well as a Surround 5.1 version. A limited gold vinyl 7-inch disc featuring the “Superman March” and “Harry’s Wondrous World” from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will be available exclusively from 4 February. A limited 180g vinyl edition (2 LPs) of the album will come out on 29 April, with an exclusive gold vinyl version released the same day.
On Amazon.com (USA), using their number B09KN2QCP4, there is a "Deluxe Edition, 2 CD, Import." (Amazon UK for the same thing just says "The Berlin Concert.") But below it says there are >3< discs. So is that the two CDs of the concert plus a Blu-Ray? On Amazon Germany, number B09KN2QCP4 refers to "Limited 2CD + 2BD Deluxe Edition (the one I got from Germany two days ago).
On Amazon.com (and I think I saw this on the DGG site as well, it's not there now) is an expensive 2-CD U x MQA release, being released on February 11, originating in Japan. I think this is some kind of high-end CD with frequencies that only dogs can hear.
