LOLITA (REISSUE)
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Music Composed, Orchestrated and Conducted by Ennio Morricone
Music Box Records - Limited Edition of 200 units - LIMITED TO ONE COPY PER CUSTOMER

Expanded reissue strictly limited to 200 units.
8-page CD booklet with liner notes by Gergely Hubai.

In collaboration with Pathé Films, Music Box Records is pleased to reissue the expanded CD of Lolita (1997), Ennio Morricone’s classic score for Adrian Lyne’s controversial adaptation of the Vladmir Nabokov novel. Starring Jeremy Irons, Melanie Griffith, Frank Langella and Dominique Swain, this version had to contend with the shadow of the earlier adaptation made by Stanley Kubrick.

Nabokov’s novel tells the tale of Humbert Humbert, a university professor who falls in love with the daughter of his landlady. His love for the teen-aged nymphette Lolita knows no boundaries so he marries his shrewish mother in order to be close to the girl. Before his new wife could oust him as a pervert, Humbert gets widowed and must take of Lolita – a sweet burden he happily carries across the country. Their cross-country adventure is followed by the mysterious Clare Quilty who has his own plans for Lolita...

For Lolita, Ennio Morricone contributed one of his most memorable and melodramatic scores that work wonderfully alongside Lyne’s slow-motion images filled with erotic tension. As the composer himself described the project: "With my music, I only had to follow on a high level the director's intentions to make Lolita a story of sincere and reciprocal love, even within the limits of the purity and malicious naiveté of its young subject."

Supervised by Claudio Fuiano and Daniel Winkler, this present edition by Music Box Records expands upon the original Milan Records soundtracks by omitting the period songs and adding more music by the Maestro. Highlights include different variations of the main theme and the "Requiescant" theme which features the guest performance of the Coro di Voci Bianche dell'Arcum children's choir. Strictly limited to 200 units, this reissue contains the same presentation and content as our remastered original release of this title in 2015.

200 units? Jeez.
I've got the earlier edition and I highly recommend. So light and breezy it has become a go-to for me on a hot day.

It's a great score, I got both the original soundtrack release as well as Quartet's expanded edition. Interesting that you would call the score "light and breezy", as I have a very different emotional response to the music. I find it very melancholy and haunting. But we both agree there is a "summer" aspect to the music.

Anyway, I'm set. But this is a Morricone favorite of mine, people should not hesitate.

Yeah, probably most of the music I listen to is melancholic and haunting to some degree, so I don't mark when those elements are present, I just miss them when they're not.

Ah, in that case I get it.

this reissue contains the same presentation and content as our remastered original release of this title in 2015.

I have Music Box's original 2013 version #MBR-038. The tracklistings are the same, but does anybody know if the sound quality on the 2013 one is exactly the same as the 2015 and thus 2022 versions, #MBR-038R?

One of Morricone's best!

I ordered a copy of this yesterday. I remember back in college when I first stumbled on the film, I watched most of it just because I was too lazy to change the channel (and had a little crush on Dominique Swain). Though I don't remember the movie, I *do* remember that the music was kind of melancholic and introspective, which I really liked. Upon listening to the samples on Music Box's site, I still think so.

I feel kind of embarrassed to admit that this is actually the first and only Morricone album I've purchased, ever. And despite Morricone being prolific to the nth degree, I feel somewhat strange that my first selection of his is of the film "Lolita." Haha. Ah well!

Everyone has to start somewhere. I’d have thought, looking at your profile, that The Thing might be up your street. Given your interests, I’d be surprised if you hadn’t seen the film, so guess that you weren’t moved to buy the score if you have seen it.

Anyway, I’m going to quit heaping speculation upon surmise. Hope you enjoy Lolita. The score, that is.

Well said, TG! Hahaha!

Also embarrassed to admit I haven't seen The Thing in its entirety - if I had, it's a pretty safe bet that it would have been my first acquisition instead. Been on my list for years to sit down and watch the whole thing.

I envy you having the chance to watch it in full for the first time. My jaw dropped shortly after it started and stayed there until the end credits!

I really like the film, good performances and it looks great. The music helps it too. There's a good behind the scenes clip during the making of it on YouTube somewhere. I must admit I've never seen the Stanley Kubrick film though.

I too have the earlier release as well as a 1997 release on BMG/Milan with 7 songs by Vera Lynn, Ella Fitzgerald and others.

Out of stock at Music Box.
Does that mean it's sold out? Or will it become available again?

I'm a bit confused about the tracklisting... why are there so many tracks with the same title?
Like "She Had Nowhere Else To Go" appears five times. Are they alternates perhaps?
