Would dearly love to attend, but won't be able to make it this time. Vienna in 2020 was hands down the greatest weekend of my life (as anyone who knows me can confirm, since I never bloody shut up about it) and I'd love to head back to that gorgeous city and recapture some of that magic. Particularly for a bit of a JW birthday celebration. Very intrigued to hear the new violin concerto also. I believe it's been recorded once already.....?..... yet to be released. But hopefully the ol' tape recorder and perhaps cameras are rolling for this one too.

Someone from JWFan asked the concert hall if the concerts would be recorded, and they replied that there are no plans to record: Translation: "Thanks for your message! According to our information, no recording of the upcoming concerts is planned at the moment"

When I got to the booking stage approximately 45 seconds after the sale function was open there were only a few tickets still available starting at € 195 ($ 225). As much as I love John Williams that was a little too much. I guess most seats were already taken by members of the Musikverein who could by them 2 days in advance. I decided to enter the waiting list and just got a confirmation that I have a ticket for € 35 for the sunday performance. But its next to the organ and has no view of the stage. Well, it's better than nothing. The music will still be great and at least I got to see Williams in Vienna and Berlin in 2020 and 2021. I hope the others who wanted to get tickets had more luck. Hope to see you there.

I am very happy that he goes back to Vienna for another concert and I am delighted by the first part of the program. I am a bit disapointed by the second part. It's the same music he played in the previous concerts in Vienna and Berlin. I am sure there is going to be a bluray release for the concert but it's the same music. Isn't there any asssociate of his to suggest to him to play something else? Things like The lost world, Cinque's theme from amistad, Seven years in tibet, A fury suite, Jane eyre suite, a Monsignor suite, Accidental tourist, other star wars themes, the grail theme from the last crusade or another theme from that film apart from the beloved scherzo, sleepers, munich, geisha, 1941 (what a march), other themes from superman, the theme from images, The cowboys, the river. I could go on but I just stop. You get what I mean. He has either forgotten a part of his old work or he just wants to please his crowd with the crowd pleasers. No disrespect to the man. He is the GOAT of film music and one of the greatest musical minds in the history of music.

Well, as I feared I had the worst seat in the house next to the organ on the balcony. You could see absolutely nothing of the stage. On the other hand it really made you listen to the music as you had nothing to distract you. Great start of the concert with a rousing rendition of Save The Bells followed by his 2nd violin concerto. It was wonderful to hear a different side of John Williams (though it's unmistakenly him) with the marvelous Anne-Sophie Mutter playing sublimely. It was followed by my favourite piece of the concert with Mutter playing the Theme from The Long Goodbye. After the intermission I was allowed to stand next to the exit door. And I could see John Williams from the hip up plus the hair and the violin of Miss Mutter when she returned for the encores. This was more conventional as I heard most of the pieces in previous concerts with the exception of The March of the Resistance from The Force Awakens and Fawkes the Phoenix (my favourite theme from the Harry Potter films). As encores we got the Mutter versions of Across the Stars and The Duel from Tintin which were worth the ticket price alone. This was followed by Flying from E.T. and The Imperial March. It was a memorable afternoon and I feel privileged that I was able to attend. I am sitting in the train taking me home right now. And getting a heavy blast from the real world as my train is filled with refugees from the Ukraine - mostly women and children. It just makes you sad and mad that something like this can happen in our time.

I was there on Saturday. It was a great experience to finally see and hear the maestro, with this fantastic orchestra. John Williams made me discover classical music in the first place and I will be forever grateful to him for that. It enriched my life. Seeing a person whose music is such a big part of your life and whom you admire so much, and the fact that this person doesn’t have a clue that you are there and who you are, feels so surreal... :-) The concerto #2 was impressive, I’ll look forward to repeated listens to fully discover its treasures. I appreciated the many encores, given the fact that he must have been exhausted from being concentrated so long. Conducting an orchestra must be a real workout and the man is 90 years old: incredible. Nice that het talked to the audience in between. Some funny moments in his speeches: “Hedwig’s theme and Fawkes the phoenix’ theme: two themes for birds, first the small one that delivered the mail and then the big one that Harry flew on”, I believe he said something like that, confusing Fawkes with Buckbeak I guess... and on Across the stars: “from Star Wars, but I can’t remember for which one...” :-) I got a big, big shiver during the climax of Leia’s theme and tears in my eyes during the E.T. flying theme. Got an autograph from Anne Sophie Mutter, that was nice too. Not from the maestro, but that’s ok: the memory of this concert is engraved in my head and that’s what counts. Thank you Mr Williams, this was a dream come true for me.

I too was there on Sunday, the first time I have ever heard John Williams live. It was magnificent, the first half quite stunning - Sound the Bells! filled the hall, the concerto deeply romantic (the harp placed to Williams' right, and Williams had the harpist join him and Mutter for the applause), and a gorgeous rendition of The Long Goodbye as an encore for Mutter. A concert in itself. The second half opened in similar fashion, Superman sounding so much more than it does on record, resounding around the Golden Hall. It was great to hear Fawkes' theme, and Princess Leia's theme was perfectly done, taking me back 45 years to first hearing. The encores were rollicking, and Mutter obviously revels in The Duel from TinTin. I had thought it was all over (there had been countless standing ovations throughout), then Williams turned and simply said "Darth Vader!" into the microphone and the Imperial March saw us out, 2 hours and 45 minutes after we had begun. Not recorded as far as I could see, but this will echo in my memory for the rest of my life. Ian PS I thought I was going to miss out again (I had tickets for the cancelled London concert) but this time I got a specialist travel company (Kirker) to try for tickets for me, and they came up trumps a week before the concert and then put a package together for me and my wife. Expensive, but this was a once in a lifetime chance.
