I remember an interview (probably from the 80s) where he expressed interest scoring somebody else's film if they asked him.

He definitely mentioned it when promoting one of his LOST THEMES albums.

As much as I love TD Firestarter, it seems someone temped it with Alan Parson’s Voyager from Pyramid as it has the same chord changes and rhythmic figures.

Also Foreigner's Waiting For A Girl Like You may have been used as a temp:

Dissappointing that Tangerine Dream didn't get the gig, but not surprising. At least I hope that Carpenter will use some of TDs themes in the new score.

Nooo this is a new movie, why rethread something old then? RDs score was asome in the 80´s version, but this is something almost 40 years later and TDs music is in the 80´s (and should stay there)
Carpenter proved with his music that he has evolved and it´s cool that he does music to other movies now...

That’s pretty wild considering he was supposed to direct the original version. Really looking forward to hearing this.

Good point that!

..not bad. A bit ‘Halloweeny’ at the beginning but finds its own way as it continues. Looking forward to both score and film.

Wow, what a cool track! Those metallic background noises are just chilling. Easily one of my most awaited releases of the spring, both the score and the film.

Just got out of the film and - well, it's okay, with good fire sequences. It's also about 20 minutes shorter than the earlier film. But I think the 1984 version has it by a hair, if only for the last 20 minutes of spectacular fireball action. The new score is very Carpenter and it's a more than decent enough listen by itself - BackLot have put it all up on YouTube and I'm listening now - though Prince Of Darkness still remains my favourite of his scores. I certainly wouldn't say no if there's a CD release (ah, for the days when this would be an automatic Varese title!).

(Incidentally, as per the question of whether he's ever scored other peoples' films - the Carpenter/Carpenter/Davies trio did the main title music for STUDIO 666, the Foo Fighters horror movie that came out earlier this year.)

Indeed it was chilling & fun with JC scoring but the 1984 has my vote.

I loved this on my first listen. It's instantly my favourite of their three recent scores.

Just watched the film and …what a disappointment. Pretty good for an hour then..what happened? They run out of money and time and had to pack 3/4 of a story into 30 minutes with hardly any money for effects or even actors!? The last part just seemed kinda…empty.
Music was great though. Not his best but the best thing about the film for sure.
