  • 1:59 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 6:23 in.^
  • 10:21 in.^
  • 12:34 in.^
  • 14:14 in.^
  • 17:07 in. Joining a cue already in progress at the point where it sounds like a separate cue was cut in.^

    Also guest starring Claude Akins.

"If they string you up, I'll be sure to prosecute the offenders."

    "Broken Image"

    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-5/Medical+Center+5-3.mp4

This is the final effort by Courage for the series.

    Highlights:

    Highlights:
  • 1:13 in.^
  • 6:38 in.^
  • 9:04 in.^
  • 27:59 in.^
  • 29:13/34:08 in.^
  • 41:14 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 50:01 in.^

And the series continues to devolve in what was a recovering show in season four.

    (NtM: 12:50, 41:07)

    "Clash of Shadows"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-5/Medical+Center+5-5.mp4

  • 41:57 in.^
  • 43:23 in.^
  • 45:38 in.^
  • 47:25 in.^
  • 49:55 in.^

Hey, look -- Martin Sheen before he put his head up his own ass.

A weak score and on a set of season five scoring, there's not much -- if anything -- I would include.

    "The Casualty"
    By: John Parker
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-5/Medical+Center+5-6.mp4

  • 28:21 in.^
  • 30:26 in.^
  • 33:23 in.^
  • 35:19 in.^
  • 40:22 in. I think some of this cue may be tracked; I recognize that little Marius Constant/"The Twilight Zone"-like theme bit.^
  • 49:30 in.^

  • 40:24 in.^
  • 44:23 in.^

    "Deadly Game" (5.12)
    NO CREDITED COMPOSER

I couldn't readily identify any of the score (Assuming it's tracked from prior episodes). I made notes to myself below -- ignore.

(score: 2:17/vibes and clarinet open, a lot of soft woodwind lead pieces, closing/piano note end)

    Highlights:
  • 2:37 in.^
  • 4:47 in.^

  • 15:46 in.^
  • 17:12 in.^
  • 20:18 in.^
  • 21:59 in.^
  • 25:55 in. Repeating piano stabs and snare rum punctuate this edgy cue. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 28:56 in.^
  • 32:37 in.^
  • 37:18 in.^
  • 42:05 in.^
  • 43:36 in.^
  • 45:12 in.^
  • 49:45 in.^

Maybe a second tier effort for the series. Your mileage may vary.

    Guest-starring discount Billy Dee Williams.

    Finishing SEASON 5:

Some of the episodes loads are out-of-order, but rest assured I have the correct links under the right episodes and the right composer credited.

    "Girl from Bedlam"
    By: John Parker
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-5/Medical+Center+5-18.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 0:39 in.^
  • 3:34 in.^
  • 9:48 in.^
  • 11:56 in.^
  • 15:48 in.^
  • 25:52 in. Montage cue. The first minute is nearly SFX free, then the montage ends.^
  • 33:32 in.^
  • 40:35 in.^
  • 41:23 in.^
  • 42:40 in.^

And the streak with heart monitors that make no sounds like in real life, is over with this episode.

    "The Spectre"
    By: George Romanis
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-5/Medical+Center+5-19.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 2:!5 in.^
  • 5:56 in.^
  • 11:29 in.^
  • 13:32 in.^
  • 16:39 in.^
  • 22:45 in.^
  • 26:22 in.^
  • 25:59 in.^
  • 33:43 in.
  • 38:50 in.^
  • 46:37 in.^
  • 50:07 in.^

I like Romanis' dramatic tense material heard in a few cues, like 25:59. I'm tempted to give it a second tier status.

Maybe this plot would have been more impactful had it not already been done TWICE before.

    "The Enemies" (20)
    NO COMPOSER CREDITED

Score: playful woodwinds and some piano. Nothing was readily identifiable.

    "The Conspirators" (CORRECT)
    By: George Romanis
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-5/Medical+Center+5-22.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 0:39 in. Opens with disco, then keeps the disco style and goes into some chase music. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 5:27 in. More disco.^
  • 8:11 in. Lower octave piano chords and a solo sax'.^
  • 10:35 in.^
  • 14:18 in. Funky disco chase music for the second half of the cue.^
  • 17:53 in.^
  • 21:25 in.^
  • 24:22 in.^
  • 26:31 in.^
  • 29:25 in.^
  • 33:57 in.^
  • 40:03 in.
  • 43:04 in.^
  • 46:59 in.^
  • 48:37 in.^
  • 49:43 in.^

    "The World's a Balloon" (CORRECT)
    By: John Parker
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-5/Medical+Center+5-23.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 2:20 in.^
  • 4:47 in.^
  • 6:10 in.^
  • 13:45 in.^
  • 15:56 in.^
  • 19:25 in.^
  • 21:49 in.^
  • 23:11 in.^
  • 25:08 in.^
  • 26:53 in.^
  • 29:11 in.^
  • 31:03 in.^
  • 33:08 in.^
  • 35:26 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 42:49 in.^
  • 43:37 in.^
  • 49:19 in.^(50:14)

    "Hexed" (CORRECT)
    By: George Romanis
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-5/Medical+Center+5-24.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 1:55 in.
  • 3:47 in.
  • 6:24 in.
  • 11:40 in.^
  • 16:16 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 22:45 in.
  • 30:08 in. Almost seven minutes long.^
  • 40:36 in.^
  • 43:16 in.^
  • 48:50 in.^

On a set of season five scoring, I'd only take select cues away from the above highlights (like 16:16 and 30:08).

Lord, another voo doo is real episode. My writer's room would include a sign of forbidden garbage plots. Voo doo script/pitch: A picture of Trump saying "You're fired". And it's painfully bad, too; even listening to highlights is torture because of the episode it's scored to.

    "Appointment with Danger" (CORRECT)
    By: George Romanis
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-5/Medical+Center+5-21.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 4:11 in.^
  • 6:37 in.^
  • 8:55 in.^
  • 21:15 in.^
  • 23:55 in.^
  • 25:39 in.^
  • 31:40 in.^
  • 34:55 in.
  • 41:23 in.
  • 43:36 in.^
  • 47:33 in.^
  • 48:14 in.^

A moody and emotional low-key score.

    "Adults Only"
    By: John Parker

  • 25:30 in.
  • 27:00/29:12 in.^
  • 33:55 in.^
  • 40:57 in.^
  • 45:28 in.
  • 47:06 in.
  • 49:53 in.^

Wow -- they chose to open the new season with this garbage?

    "The Demi-God"
    By: George Romanis
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-6/Medical+Center+6-02.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 1:25 in.^
  • 4:52 in.^
  • 6:21 in.^
  • 9:01 in.^
  • 12:41 in. I think this might be tracked from a prior Romanis score from an earlier season.^
  • 16:24 in.^
  • 21:55 in.^(open/close)
  • 24:15 in.^
  • 28:41 in.^
  • 30:57 in.^
  • 41:36 in.^
  • 45:16 in.^
  • 46:55 in.^
  • 49:21 in. This might also be tracked from the same episode score I can't recall the name of.^

    "The Faces of Peril"
    By: John Parker
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-6/Medical+Center+6-03.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 0:51 in.^
  • 2:37 in.^
  • 3:57 in.^
  • 6:20 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 11:20 in. This might be tracked from a prior Parker-scored episode (until the guitar strumming bit).^
  • 14:15 in.^
  • 16:54 in.^
  • 24:16 in.^
  • 27:25 in.^
  • 30:57 in.^
  • 33:55 in.^
  • 40:33 in.^
  • 47:52 in.^

I think I might put this amongst the best scores of the series. Again -- your mileage may vary.

    (NtM: 18:49, 39:07)

    "Three-Cornered Cage"
    By: Nelson Riddle
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-6/Medical+Center+6-04.mp4

This is the first effort by Riddle for the show.

    Highlights:
  • 0:39 in.^
  • 3:48 in.^
  • 5:26 in.^
  • 13:28 in.^
  • 14:16 in.^
  • 16:20 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(second)
  • 19:11 in.^
  • 23:41 in.^
  • 26:03 in.^
  • 29:31 in.^
  • 31:08 in.^
  • 38:10 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 42:51 in.^
  • 45:07 in.^
  • 46:52 in.^
  • 50:05 in.^

Don't worry -- it doesn't sound like "Batman".

Dr. Gannon: "Are you comparing re-fried beans and exploratory surgery?"

    "The Shattered Mask"
    By: George Romanis
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-6/Medical+Center+6-05.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 2:51 in.^
  • 6:10 in.
  • 9:18 in.^
  • 15:12 in.^
  • 19:50 in. I think this might be tracked from a prior episode.^
  • 25:01 in. This might also be tracked.^
  • 25:57 in.^
  • 29:06 in.^
  • 30:42 in.^
  • 34:12 in. The cue after the commercial might also be tracked.^
  • 36:05 in.^
  • 38:31 in.^
  • 41:16 in.^
  • 48:03 in.^

    "May God Have Mercy"
    By: George Romanis
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-6/Medical+Center+6-06.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 2:31 in.^
  • 5:27 in.^
  • 7:55 in.^
  • 43:31 in.^
  • 49:12 in.^

A weak score that on a set of season five scoring, I'd include barely anything from. Probably nothing at all if there is way too much good material from other episodes.

    Continuing SEASON 6:

    "The Prisoners"
    By: END CREDITS CUT OFF
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-6/Medical+Center+6-07.mp4

Working under the assumption there is a composer credited, I am covering the score.

    Highlights:
  • 1:33 in.^
  • 4:21 in. And the disco-licious disco source music piece after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 9:25 in.^
  • 11:15 in.^
  • 12:27 in.^
  • 15:25 in.^
  • 19:07 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 21:03 in.^
  • 22:02 in.^
  • 25:06 in.^
  • 28:11 in.^
  • 32:18 in.^
  • 37:33 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 42:19 in.^
  • 45:00 in.^
  • 49:03 in.^

With the cliché of a harmonica for a prisoner.

I can't readily identify the composer, other than to say I don't hear anything that indicates Parker. What I can say is this is not tracked from any prior episode.

    "The Bribe"
    By: John Parker
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-6/Medical+Center+6-08.mp4

  • 17:43 in.^
  • 19:05 in.^
  • 20:27 in.^
  • 24:53 in.^
  • 38:27 in.^
  • 41:13 in.^
  • 45:39 in.^
  • 49:32 in.^

Brunette Woman: "We're talking about sex, Mr. Gannon."
    Dr. Gannon: "Fascinating subject."

    "Tainted Lady"
    By: George Romanis
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-6/Medical+Center+6-09.mp4

Wow. Just wow. I'd have shit-canned that and written it some other way. Awful.

    Finishing SEASON 7:

    "The Stranger"
    By: John Parker
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-7_202201/Medical+Center+7-19.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 0:39 in.^
  • 3:42 in.^
  • 8:58 in. This might be tracked from a prior Parker-scored episode.^
  • 10:27 in.^
  • 14:28 in.^
  • 17:08 in.^
  • 20:19 in.^
  • 26:04 in.^
  • 27:37 in.^
  • 29:28 in.^
  • 31:36/33:22 in.^
  • 42:18 in.^
  • 45:28 in.^
  • 47:23 in.^

    (NtM: 3:#7)

    "A Touch of Sight"
    NO COMPOSER CREDITED

(Score: 0:39 [pretty sure this is from that Parker score I suggested should have been rejected], 4:41, 15:51, 19:22, 20:55, 28:07, 31:41, 39:15 [possibly a Romanis or Parker score from season six or this season], 42:54, and 48:58)

    "Life, Death and Mrs. Armbruster"
    By: John Parker
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-7_202201/Medical+Center+7-21.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 0:39 in.^
  • 3:56 in.^
  • 7:33 in. Parker's music in combination with the fat lady in the hospital, is perfect.^
  • 14:16 in.^
  • 17:21 in.
  • 20:51 in.^
  • 23:18 in.^
  • 27:28 in.^
  • 35:22 in.^
  • 39:15 in.^
  • 43:11 in.^
  • 47:29 in.^
  • 48:54 in.^

    "Major Annie, M.D."
    By: George Romanis
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-7_202201/Medical+Center+7-22.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 12:41 in. The Officer's Club source music, lead by piano. And the score cue that immediately follows the source music.^
  • 16:43 in.^
  • 18:05 in.^
  • 20:36 in.^
  • 22:36 in.^
  • 27:12 in.^
  • 29:05 in.^
  • 31:51 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 38:06 in.^
  • 39:36 in.^
  • 44:57 in.^
  • 48:46 in.^

What a borderline bad episode. Badly written, badly executed, and Lois Nettleton -- playing the lead guest star of this episode -- doesn't help by delivering very substandard acting. Romanis had some heavy lifting here and I can tell he wasn't very inspired throughout the score. Still fine music, mind you.

    (Note to Me: 17:59)

    "The Happy State of Depression"
    By: Lyn Murray
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-7_202201/Medical+Center+7-23.mp4

This is the only effort by Murray for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 2:08 in.
  • 10:14 in.
  • 14:35 in.^
  • 19:45 in.^
  • 27:55 in.^
  • 38:17 in.^
  • 38:59 in.^
  • 43:51 in.^
  • 44:38 in.^
  • 47:24 in.^

Let me preface my comments by saying that Lyn Murray was a very talented composer and who did many fine television scores, but here ... this sounds like a cheap rushed score; and it sounds like something I would have rejected. There's not much I'd keep for a set of season seven scoring. Based upon this score -- what should have been his chance to make a real impression -- I'd have not hired him back. But it's impossible to know what the producers would have done, since this is the second-to-last episode.

"All my life I've been searching for someone who can understand the brutal shades of pessimism."

"If Wishes Were Horses" (series finale)
    By: George Romanis
    https://archive.org/details/medical-center-season-7_202201/Medical+Center+7-24.mp4

    Highlights:
  • 3:02 in.^
  • 4:49 in.^
  • 9:50 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 14:34 in.^
  • 20:10 in.^
  • 21:18 in.^(22:56)
  • 26:23 in.^
  • 32:48 in. The source music.^
  • 37:31 in.
  • 43:10 in.^
  • 47:57 in.^

Philip Michael Thomas guest stars. Also, one character says he's "going to Rico's". Talk about coincidences.

And that concludes the series. There were no remakes, spin-off's or TV movies after it ended. Two or three episodes are rumored to have been back-door pilots. I couldn't find a reason online for the cancellation, but from about season three onward the ratings just kept going down; by the final season it was at it's second-to-lowest point: 35th place. I suspect that was a key contributor.

See you in about two weeks for the next series I will handle: "The Flying Nun". Taking two weeks off from a new thread (active titles like "American Dad!" will continue).

"Operation Heartbeat" (feature-length pilot that spawned the series)
    By: Lalo Schifrin
    https://youtube.com/watch?v=7izSo17T_os

    Highlights:
  • 2:30 in.
  • 5:04 in.
  • 20:59 in. Jazz source music for a club.^
  • 30:10 in.
  • 37:05 in. The theme that later became the theme music for the series, makes its real first appearance here.^(39:49)
  • 42:36 in.^(46:33)
  • 53:30 in.^
  • 1:04:11 in.^
  • 1:10:50 in.
  • 1:14:26 in.^(1:14:59)
  • 1:29:57 in.^(1:30:33)
  • 1:34:26 in. Immediately followed by the end credits music -- pretty much identical to the series arrangement.^(1:34:53)

A lot of low-key emotional material. Sometimes there are some bigger flourishes. No opening theme music. On a set of season one scoring, which would likely encompass this pre-series pilot, I'd say only about half the cues here need releasing.

    Out-of-context quote...
Sexy Brunette Woman: "I never send a fellow home hungry; policy of the management."

Show must've had a hell of a music supervisor. All those names in the first few episodes alone...!

It was a MGM show, it would've been Harry V. Lojewski.
