Goldsmith and Wild Rovers received some lovin' on the "American Masters: Blake Edwards: A Love Story in 24 Frames" which aired on PBS on Aug.27th, '24.
Julie Andrews tells the story of when Blake Edwards called her up and urged her to get to the studio and the scoring stage asap to hear Jerry Goldsmith's music for the 'Wild Horses' scene.
Henry Mancini also got a lotta lovin', to be expected. All in all, a heartfelt documentary that involved Edward's grown children with some great home movie clips. Julie Andrews takes center stage, narrating and appearing on camera. She still looks great.
I remember when I first caught WILD ROVERS on TV in the 1980s how thrilled I was with the exciting music over the opening titles (not the actual "Main Title" on album). I thought "that must be Jerry Goldsmith"... and then, when his credit came on screen, I had my inner "BINGO!" moment. Teenage memories.
Two years ago I contributed to this thread, expressing my admiration for the score while lamenting that I missed out on the FSM CD--and hoping that it would get re-issued one day, as is apparently the fate of all Jerry Goldsmith scores.
So, has anyone heard anything regarding a re-release? If not, I'll have to explore the secondary market.
EdG above says 'controlled by Warner Bros', so if that's the case, we all know it ain't coming out anytime soon, unless their policies change right soon.
