Glad you got "Sarah's Laughter" Mark! (How do you like it?)

Zoragoth, did you hear back from Leigh?

Yavar

P.S. Simon and Schiffy, thanks for your kind words. smile

It's great. Might be my preferred of the two…especially the jaunty cue of Baby Book/Caught in the Act.

Amazing how "big" JG could make these very small ensembles sound.

I'm going to have to go back to perusing the Board more frequently -- or perhaps I should say, frequent the board more peruseally -- as I am only now seeing this thread. Better late than never to receive such good news, and I'll look forward to participating in this project's future endeavors.

I gather that this will be exclusively Goldsmith, although I hope it goes without saying that Bernstein's un-recorded GE scores would also be worthy of similar TLC some day.

I did, Yavar, with surprising celerity, given he said he was somewhere in the woods! :-) He re-sent the link but I've not had a chance to try it (or thank him) yet. An agenda item for tomorrow, and looking forward to it!

I must say I've had a chance to skim your liner notes (before I actually listened to the first score, so I am planning to re-read). They are excellent and informative! Looking forward to further delving ....

Oh, this is out already? Great. I checked my mails and found not download links, was just about to ask Leigh (I was sure it would have been only an oversight), when I did find the links (they were just differently sorted, not along the Kickstarter campaign mails).

Great, now I can download these scores and add them to my NAS. Very much looking forward to this.

For me the highlight cue of "Sarah's Laughter" is The Decision...just gorgeous. I think my cohost Clark and I still prefer "Bar Mitzvah" of the two, but there's no denying the strengths of both scores. And you're in good company because Leigh himself and our other cohost David both seem to prefer "Sarah's".

Yes indeed. His ensembles for Thriller were already quite small usually, but I think "Sarah's Laughter" is even smaller...like possibly less than 10 players? (I'd have to double check.) But it doesn't sound that way at all; it sounds like a proper sized orchestra for TV.

Preston, good to see you! I'm sorry you missed the Kickstarter. Luckily you'll only have to wait a few more weeks for this to be available digitally for purchase. I share your love of Bernstein's music for the series too. That album he recorded is fantastic, though I will say that I wouldn't mind getting faithful restorations of his original cues. He really reimagined his thematic material as "concert versions" for larger orchestra on that LP, and even though "The Stone" got two whole cuts on the album, it would be great to one day have the whole score complete as originally written. "David's Love Song" in particular is just such a gorgeous theme...

Of course you probably know that Bernstein wrote many, many more GE Theater scores we know of, compared with Goldsmith...like probably 20 more -- he scored almost the ENTIRETY of the seventh season! So it would be a more daunting project to try and tackle his output for the series.

Zoragoth, thanks for the kind words about my notes. I can't wait to hear what you and Nicolai think of the music itself, once you have time to listen!

Both newly recorded Goldsmith GE Theater scores should be available in wide download release about a month from now. Leigh wanted to give Kickstarter backers advance access, which is a fairly typical practice. But if you want to hear substantial samples from both scores (as well as a lot of good conversation with Leigh), please check out this podcast episode!

Wow, I totally missed out on this Kickstarter campaign (although I was notified about the On Dangerous Ground project and contributed to it). Yavar, any idea as to which digital store(s) will be offering a download for purchase? Per your post here, a 'month' would be about this week, hopefully? :-)

Looks like it's going to be another few weeks. Leigh has been absolutely swamped with work lately. He recently shared the following in a Kickstarter backer update:
"Hi everyone!

Thanks for all the incredibly kind feedback re the new recordings, I'm thrilled that you're enjoying them so much!!

I haven't forgotten about our continuing journey, and the aim is to present everyone with the next project in early October (at the moment, I'm in the middle of three orchestration commissions which are taking me right up to the end of September).
...
Both scores should be available for download from Sept 19...
Keep your eyes and ears open for the next announcement...for the moment, I've got to get back to arranging...but we'll talk soon!!

Thanks everyone"

I'm sorry you missed out on the Kickstarter and have to wait for the wide download release, but I promise the music will be worth the wait! And now you know when the next Kickstarter will roughly be happening...

Many thanks, Yavar. I greatly appreciate the info. I will start paying more attention to my Kickstarter emails, lol, and to Leigh's upcoming projects. Kind regards, -Rick.

No problem! You can also just keep an eye on this thread... I'm sure that Leigh or I will add an update when the time comes, and these crowdfunding campaigns usually last a month so you should notice one of the many updates/bumps. In the meantime, did you have a chance to check out the podcast episode?

I listened to one of the samples. Loved the music. I am a big fan of Jerry Goldsmith since 1970, when I saw Patton at the theater. I didn't listen to the entire podcast. I've been wanting to take a deep dive into your entire series of podcasts (in chronological order) for a while now. I will be starting very soon (!), and I will keep checking this thread for updates. Thanks again. Regards, -Rick.

You really don't need to worry about chronological order for the Interviews/Spotlights/Production Reports, only the "main" show (which is why we helpfully number those but consciously decided against numbering the Interviews and such). You should just listen to any episodes in those sub-series when you feel like it! And we play a LOT of samples in this particular Production Report. Leigh was very generous to sign off on it. smile

I forgot to post when I finally got to listen to this. For sure worth the small pittance they cost. Well done Leigh (and Yavar and whoever else was involved) and look forward to future installments.

Hard to say, they are so different that it's hard to compare. I suppose Sarah's Laughter is a bit more straighforwardly melodic, which perhaps would give it the edge.

Purchased these from Amazon's digital music store this morning, so I guess they must be out on all platforms -- really terrific! What a great Goldsmith month we're having.

Just purchased both volumes on Itunes. Haunting, heartfelt, expressive music. Simply amazed at Jerry's creativity even at this stage of his career.

For anyone who missed the campaign, or generally avoids mp3 formats, both BAR MTIZVAH and SARAH’S LAUGHTER are now available in lossless format (complete with Yavar’s liner notes):

https://www.lpfilmmusic.co.uk/shop

The next campaign (for Vol 3 & 4) will be active around mid-November. We’ll be going for two scores right out of the gate, this time (so no confusing stretch goals!)
