BANANAS
Music by Marviln Hamslich

Quartet Records, in collaboration with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, presents the premiere vinyl release of the infectious score by Marvin Hamlisch (THE WAY WE WERE, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, SOPHIE’S CHOICE) for Woody Allen’s hilarious classic BANANAS (1971)

The second film directed by Allen was a crazy comedy about a bumbling New Yorker who is dumped by his activist girlfriend and travels to a tiny Latin American nation where he becomes involved in its latest rebellion. As with his previous film, TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN, it’s a film based more on non-stop gags than on plot. Both were huge successes that launched one of the most prolific and unique careers of the last five decades.

As with TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN, the score was composed by the talented Marvin Hamlisch, two of the rare occasions that Allen has used original music for any of his films. Hamlisch provides one of his most elaborate and memorable comedy scores. It gives us fresh, dynamic catchy tunes dominated by Caribbean rhythms – including a beautiful love theme, some action music, ironic suspense cues and two memorable songs: “Quiero la noche” and “Cause I Believe in Loving”

This limited LP edition, pressed on audiophile 180 GM yellow banana vinyl, features all the music written by Hamlisch for the film in beautiful, pristine stereo. It has been specially mixed, restored and mastered for vinyl by Chris Malone.

Any soundtrack mentioning Fielding is must-buy... ehm.
Perfect companion for the Kritzerland edition.

How amusing - using my track titles - I do hope I'm credited for them somewhere.

I'd like that too. I wonder how much music is in the film? Seems like the main title is reused alot. Could it have fit on Bruce's BANANAS - EVERYTHING ABOUT SEX cd?

"Bananas" is a great score and this LP is a neat idea, especially seeing as the Kritzerland CD is out of print. I purchased the Kritzerland CD shortly after it was released, which I now understand was in 2009. It doesn't feel that long ago.

There has been some discussion about "Take the Money and Run" on here over the years, and apparently the film itself went through so many ownership changes over the decades that there seems to be doubt that the tapes survived all of the moving around. But I don't recall any actual confirmation that they're lost. I wonder if Hamlisch himself ended up with them?

Could it have fit? Of course. Our CD was licensed from MGM/UA. I think you know that Take the Money and Run was and is not owned by that entity so, no, it could not have been included.

I don't follow who owns what. I was mainly wondering how much music was in "Take the Money and Run." And wouldn't it have been nice, running time-wise, if all 3 scores could fit on one CD.

I should have said, "I can´t find a copy, at a resonable price, anywhere". I live in Mexico and the prices at discogs plus shipping are to expensive for a single CD.

But thanks anyway wink

I don't believe Mr. Hamlisch's first name is Marvil or Marviln

Oh, don't be disingenuous - you know exactly what I mean. Can't put three scores on one CD when a) one of them isn't owned by the entity that owns the other two, and b) no tapes exist.

I suppose this release makes sense, but I can't see it. Release a CD & LP, fine, release an LP when there's a CD available, okay, but to release an LP when there's no CD (it's OOP), well I dunno. Quartet must know what they're doing.
