Sadly, there are actually a lot of flaws with this release and despite what Powell says, a lot of missing music too.

The cues called "Marie Leaves Farm," "Bourne Remembers," "Before Shootout" and "Shut It Down" are all unreleased, as are the significantly revised film versions of "At the Bank," "Escape from Embassy," and "Conklin Killed." I’m pretty sure all of these were recorded in pick-up sessions after the first dub had been completed.

Powell's cool unused car chase cue from the leaked bootleg is still unreleased.

The 4 theme suites/demos that were included at the end of the OST weren't included this time around either.

The track labeled "Bourne on Land (Alternative Version)" on this release doesn't belong, as it's actually a mislabeled demo for the "Morning Run" cue from Supremacy. Both cues have the slate "1m3" in their respective scores, so that could be related to the mix up.

At least one cue ("Got Any ID") has been transferred at the wrong sample rate, so it plays at the wrong speed/pitch. It’s also faded out early, so you can’t recreate the exact crossfade it has into “Extreme Ways” in the film.

Here’s a spreadsheet comparing all the verious releases of this score, including the bootleg:

Just got this at the weekend, and have been listening to it today. I find it a fascinating listen, quite different to the original album. I think it might be arguable that this new release complements the original album rather than replacing it.

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment...

Bourne on Land [Alternate] are we sure this wasn't what was written for Identity but was replaced and Powell proposed it again for the sequel ? Or do we consider it's presence on the boot of the second to be proof?

Got any ID? Again, could this not be how it was originally recorded. It was only later in post production that they got the Moby song and so altered the track so it could merge with the song ?

I know it's probably more than likely to just be a mistake but just wondered whether these aren't errors. We know the film / score went through a lot of changes - could these be what Powell wrote before they got sped up / replaced ?

There's a quote from Powell (I think from someone earlier in this thread) that says this was the music before the 'dub'. I presume the 'dub' to be what is done with the music to match it to picture, which probably includes edits, rewrites, mix changes, etc.

I appreciate this summary. I bought the CD and am enjoying it but, like you, miss a number of cues, prominent among them Shut it Down and Got Any ID. I was saddened too that it fades out too soon to make the crossfade you mention. I would love to do that as well.

Finally, I don't know that I have ever heard the unreleased car-chase cue. I am sure this is discussed elsewhere but have not had time to search ... who wrote the car-chase cue used in the film? I like it but it seems oddly out of place with the rest of the music (as I am sure others have mentioned).

[This reminds me of the longed-for missing cue from the X-Files: Fight the Future movie, finally released on the last X-files compilation, called Smoking Telegram.]

I believe the music used in the movie for the car chase was Ready Steady Go by Paul Oakenfold

It doesn't make sense for this cue to have been written for Identity as it contains one of the main themes for Supremacy. It's also just more or less identical to the Morning Run cue it was labeled as on the bootleg, aside from some differences in orchestration.

One other question ... did Powell write the cue sometimes called Wombosi Boat Remembered? That is not on any of the soundtracks.

My understanding is that the Hans-Zimmer.com track list includes cues from 2 separate bootlegs, yes, 1 of which never leaked publicly.

I've only heard that cue called "Bourne Remembers." I don't know if Powell wrote it or not.

That's more than a little braggadocios for my taste.

Purchased Bourne Identity! I don't know why I waited on this.

The track list on the Zimmer site, marked bootleg, does include three tracks I'd love to hear ... Bourne Remembers, Shut it Down and Got Any ID, which interestingly is shorter than the version on the recent release, which as noted above fades out quickly. Hmmm....

Thanks Jason LeBlanc and CitizenJoe for clarifying what's not on the new edition, but was on the original CD release. Helped me a lot with safely streamlining my customized iTunes album (and saving a tad bit of HD space)!

I'm enjoying the new CD (got it just after christmas) a lot and really appreciate the alternates and different versions. In fact, I used to find the old release somewhat hard to get into – until I realized that it was just the four non-score tracks at its end what was bothering me. I still cannot come to like the latter, but am keeping the tracks (and the disc they're on) nevertheless. Have come to appreciate the old release a lot more now, too. smile
