Thanks to dragon53 for linbking to it, the trailer for the "Predator" prequel film, taking place 300 years in-'verse before when a female Indian encounters a predator:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HGqcifonvs

The film is due out in August and I was surprised to not find any composer announcement yet. I looked around and still found nothing. No music department credits on IMDb either, so I can't even take a stab.

I'm sure it'll ultimately come down to who the director has worked with before, though I yearn for Silvestri.

The director has only directed one theatrical film prior, which was scored by Bear McCreary. Bear also scored the pilot of a TV series he directed, but outside that different composers on other series.

Of course having Silvestri return to the series would be awesome, but there is no way in heck that this Hulu-financed production could afford his fee- I mean, the guy gets paid millions to score Marvel movies! The choice of Bear McCreary would be awesome, though - my only hope is that there is a budget for at least a mid-sized orchestra to perform the score.

Yes, nice trailer.
That's a proper teaser.
The film could do worse than getting Bear McCreary for the score.
My interest would wane if it gets a Balfe-like calibre programmer.

I had no idea the movie takes place in India.

In terms of the score, I can understand how, sonically, something more along the lines of Horner's "Apocalyto" would be more suitable than the large scale orchestral sound of the Silvestri, Debney and Jackman scores.

For scenes made up exclusively by ethnic elements, sure. Otherwise I disagree utterly with the idea that a PREDATOR film could work without that Silvestri power and foreboding. It just wouldn't feel right.

Turning the "Predator" musical ideas into live players with American Indian instruments would be a cool idea.

For sure, I still would love to hear something of Silvestri, but for the first time in the series this isn't a modern-day setting and without any of the usual military hardware present, I don't think his main march theme would work. Certainly some of his motifs for the Predator itself would work in the score, though...

THAT would be awesome. I don't hold out much hope for that sort of creativity but I am excited about this series.

I could likely agree with that. Also... smile

Nice. I enjoy her video game scores, particularly for the Assassin's Creed series. I am looking forward to hearing what she comes up with.

I must admit, not being a 'gamer' or into game scores in general, I'd never heard of her before this announcement.
I played some clips on YouTube and they sounded pretty solid.
She came through the ranks working for/helping out Brian Tyler.
This could be a big break for her, if successful.

I did like this clip on YT...

And you've gotta love THAT dress smile
