Any one hearing “ Last of the Mohicans” I definitely heard echoes of 'Mohicans' both in terms of the mood and the instrumentation. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find out that 'Mohicans' was used as the temp track.

As I said - it's just the orchestration and the mood - nothing specific. Her melodies veer away slightly from any similarity to 'Mohicans'. However, during her main theme (the big recurring romantic one), I half expected the rhythmic element from 'The Kiss' to kick in - but it didn't. I love the scores to both films. Any similarity between 'Prey' and 'Mohicans' was, in fact, welcome. (If I wanted to 'scour the scores', I could probably make a case for the use of percussion as well. A lot of running through the woods with drums - akin to 'Mohicans' opening deer hunt). Someday I'll ask her if the temp was 'Mohicans'. Wouldn't be the first time a composer felt locked in to a certain approach due to the temp. Beyond that, it could just be pure 'homage', in which case as I said, 'welcome!'

I think they're talking about the one or two times the score almost had a theme. The composer herself said that she was influenced by Mohicans. It just sounds like the same coloring as the Trevor Jones Mohicans music.

I did see an orchestrator and orchestra in the credits mind you. I like the sound she achieved. A Silvestri-styled score wouldn't have worked for this film. However, like others here, I was hoping for a couple of signature themes or motives to grab onto. But she did very well all things considered.

Just saw the film is getting a physical release on 4K, Bluray and DVD. Fingers crossed for a CD! Good to know! I was just talking about Prey the other night.
