First of all, I have owned this truly wonderful set ever since it was released back in 1999. My first question is, are these CBS Re-recordings on the CDs or were they actually mastered from the original CBS sessions? NO, we used the Japanese CD releases that VARESE released that were assembled by Risty Alexander back in the 1980's and the album masters from CERBERUS RECORDS for the library cues and radio scores by Herrmann. As I recall we adjusted the running order on "The Lonely" to give a better ending then it had on the VARESE release. Also, is it also true that CBS will not license any more music from this series? That's a very long story, I'm sure someday they will see the light of day. I also have the Blu Rays of TZ which include many “Isolated Scores”, but I just find myself listening to the 40th CD edition. Any comments? it's worth mentioning that some of the scores were the original soundtrack recordings and some where re-recordings done for the CBS foreign production music library that were done in Mexico by Fred Steiner and others that were done in Europe by Led Gluskin. it was a great set. How many of the classic Twilight Zone (1959-64) episodes had original scores and how many were tracked with library/other episode music? 56 out of 156 episodes have original scores (mostly confined to season 1). The rest were stock. Wow, straight answer. Great, thanks!

They licensed out the music, obviously. Many TV shows and TV movies have done this.

So I'm watching some crappy William Shatner flick called Kingdom of the Spiders and half the soundtrack is literally needledropped from the Varese suites for King Nine Will Not Return, Back There, and The Invaders. How the hell did that happen? Kingdom of the Spiders is amazing! It's a great budget horror flick and other than the warbly title song, the entire score is made up of library cues. Other than the TZ tracks, I spotted stuff from the KPM Library by David Lindup and Trevor Duncan. I'm sure they just licensed the same cues VS used for their releases.
