I don't see any info about this release yet, across the forum, so here it is:

The new upcoming (overseas?) FIRST BLOOD 40th anniversary Bluray/4kUHD disc set edition by STUDIOCANAL will feature, at last I would say, a bonus on the Jerry Goldsmith score, as follows:

Renowned composer, Jerry Goldsmith (ALIEN, POLTERGEIST, TOTAL RECALL), scored the film and will be the focus of one of the new bonus features....

THE HUNTER AND THE HUNTED: SCORING FIRST BLOOD – A new retrospective focusing on Jerry Goldsmith’s highly influential score with soundtrack producer Robert Townson, film music historian Daniel Schweiger, and Goldsmith biographer Jeff Bond

Yes, our very FSM Jeff Bond is involved! Fantastic news!

JUNE 8th, 2022

"STUDIOCANAL today announce a new special edition of RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD (1982) in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Ted Kotcheff’s (WAKE IN FRIGHT, WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S) action classic which spawned a legendary character in Sylvester Stallone’s (ROCKY, THE EXPENDABLES, TULSA KING) fighting machine, John J. Rambo, and kicked off one of the most iconic action-movies franchises of all time.

The brand-new SteelBook Edition will include a Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD™ disc and will roll-out across STUDIOCANAL’s territories (UK, France, Germany, Australia & New Zealand) from November this year. The new release will feature a striking new artwork created by graphic designer and illustrator, Matt Ryan Tobin, as well as several new bonus features and an in-depth essay penned by david j. moore.

To further celebrate this landmark Anniversary, a 4K theatrical release is planned in the UK from June 24th 2022 via Park Circus. The film will screen in over 100 cinemas in the UK including Vue, Odeon, Showcase, and selected independent sites, allowing audiences to celebrate a cultural icon that has spanned generations.

RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD is based on David Morrell’s novel and was co-written by Sylvester Stallone. Renowned composer, Jerry Goldsmith (ALIEN, POLTERGEIST, TOTAL RECALL), scored the film and will be the focus of one of the new bonus features.

When small town Washington sheriff Will Teasle (Brian Dennehy) detains a vagrant drifter for resisting arrest, little does he realise that he has set in motion a series of events that bring mayhem and bloody reckoning to his community. The shabby vagrant is in fact former Green Beret John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone), a hero of the Vietnam War who has returned home to find America no longer wants him. Responding to brutal treatment from Teasle’s Deputies with sudden ferociousness, Rambo makes a daring escape from the town jail, steals a motorcycle and roars off towards the wilderness with the sheriffs not far behind.

Great news. Been waiting for a decent BR release of this for ages. It's a shame it doesn't feature the Drew Struzan painting for the cover. One of The artists best.

Good news. Nice extra! The current 4K presentation isn’t bad though. Also getting a limited cinema run this weekend in the U.K. Not sure if it is showing elsewhere.

What is this special edition? Seems to have a lot of extras but no mention of the Goldsmith feature.

I would triple dip on this score if Intrada magically found a way to remove the analog hiss of their last release.

That's what I was thinking too. I have the first three movies on UHD disc, and they all look phenomenal...especially First Blood

A lot of people complain about the current UHD having a yellow cast even with Dolby Vision turned on. Maybe Canal addressed that. Not holding my breath though.

I'll have to check it out. Up until last Friday, I was using an XBOX One X as my 4K disc player, and that only supports HDR10. I got a mid-range Panasonic that supports Dolby Vision, so I guess this decides what movie I'm checking out next! smile

I probably didn't notice a slight yellow tint because I've been using "Filmmaker Mode" on my LG television which has a warmer temperature to the picture. What really jumped out to me was the clarity of the picture.

Just booked some tickets to see this film at our local ODEON on Monday night.
I actually saw it first, in the cinema, in January 1983 (ABC Lime Street, Liverpool).
So it opened quite late '82 or early '83 in the UK.
It's on nearly every night in the UK on one of the free to air ITV channels...but you can't beat a GOOD FILM at the cinema.

I am sure Studiocanal will issue a box set with both the Blu Ray and 4K disc, as they have done with their other releases in recent year's.
