For me, the first seven episodes (not counting the unaired pilot) are amazing. The pacing is a little slow in spots for today's attention span, but still, they're great. The rest of the first season has its ups and downs. During the color seasons, there are some good ones, but there are also whole runs of episodes that are terrible, almost painful. In the late 1980s, the Sci-Fi Channel was showing them five days a week, in the morning when I'd be home from my night job. And I kept wishing they'd take it off the channel, because I was compelled to sit through these bad episodes just for the John Williams cues that were tracked in here and there. When I got the three GNP CDs, that took some of the pressure off. Boy it was great to have those.
