I've just watched the new trailer for this:
https://www.imdb.com/video/vi3586245145/?playlistId=tt11068094&ref_=tt_ov_vi

Trying not to get overly excited... but could this be the contemporary film that inspires Newman to let go and deliver an old-school gem?!

(although if it ends up being "Tolkien 2", I'll still be happy...)

His TOLKIEN score is amazing so I would mind a «sequel» of that score! smile

The trailer is all dreamy so I'm not holding my breath for the score. Going by his music one would never guess 1917 and Operation Mincemeat were war films. Those scores could easily come from any modern thriller (like The Little Things). It's the same shtick he's been doing the last couple of years. He sounds settled and pleased with his current MO. The last time he surprised me was with Victoria & Abdul which was one of my favorite scores of 2017. Like Desplat, he seems to be in a rut.

I'm looking forward to this score, as with any Thomas Newman score.

I am wondering if Newman will also score Sam Mendes's Empire of Light this year. I'm looking forward finding out what his next project(s) are.

Isn't Helen Mirren a bit young to have been a pre-teen during World War II?

Yes, if the "present" in this movie is 2022, she's about fifteen years too young, but actors play ages that they're not, and there aren't a lot of them (or people) in their nineties.

I know the book did the same thing, but the connection to Wonder here seems ridiculously tangential.

But looking forward to the score!

No kidding. For those who haven't seen the trailer, the premise of the film is that the bully from Wonder is told the story of a teenage love affair in Nazi Germany by his grandmother, played by Helen Mirren. I can't think of a looser spinoff to a hit film. The actual title is White Bird: A Wonder Story, but given one of Mirren's recent films I think they should have gone for Wonder Woman In Gold.

Still, as always looking forward to a new Thomas Newman score (though not looking forward to a new Marc Forster film).

Sigh, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross apparently scored Sam Mendes upcoming film instead of Thomas Newman...

I wonder why he didn't ask Newman to return...

I can only imagine it being an impossible scheduling conflict.. Surely there can't be another reason!??

It's a good movie but still, some of my friends don't like it

Although I am aware that the book achieved the same result, this Wonder connection seems absurdly irrelevant.

Is there any update on a release for this score?

I remember reading that it was a very emotive and orchestral score from Newman.

Looks like October 14. I hope this is a good score.

Can anyone find more info about this score, is it really going to be released tomorrow? I can't find any tracklist for it.

The movie dropped off the October schedule with no new release date announced yet, so I doubt we'll be hearing the score any time soon.

First, Operation Mincemeat was delayed from January to April, and ended up being pretty underwhelming (even for me...)
In February, Dog was released with a lovely, if unremarkable 25-minute score... but not even one minute made available in any form.. not even digital.
I mean.. when was the last time I had to tape music from the telly!?
Even Of Mice and Men - surely a prestige project for Newman... not even a small snippet made available.
Is his agent on vacation for the whole year?

Now White Bird, both movie & score, seem to have disappeared without a trace. This major (?) movie had an official trailer released, announcing the theatrical release date, and then.... nothing....
And possibly due to scheduling issues with him scoring this film, Empire of Light goes to Reznor & Ross instead...

Conclusion: it's really not an easy time to be a Thomas Newman fan!!

Yeah man, it's rubbish. I'm just glad we got that fantastic interview with him this week.

I'd already forgotten about Of Mice And Men; I would absolutely kill to hear that.

Outside of White Bird, we still have A Man Called Otto and The Last Voyage Of Demeter upcoming but, you're right, been a bit dry for a while.

This is so true. I was really looking forward to hearing his score for White Bird and it would be fabulous to hear his Of Mice and Men. Hopefully A Man Named Otto arrives in December with a lot of music! I really liked the score for Dog, is it available anywhere to listen to?

Is Of Mice And Men even the sort of thing that could see a release? Was it performed live to the ballet or was it a playback? The little you can hear in the promotional videos sounds typically Newman with the amount of overdubbing of solo instruments and processed stuff, like his film scores are.

Another delay...

2022 has not been a great year for Thomas Newman score releases.
