“CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER: LIMITED EDITION (2-CD SET)” Music by James Horner Limited Edition of 2000 Units RETAIL PRICE: $26.98 STARTS SHIPPING JULY 5 La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures proudly present a remastered and expanded 2-CD soundtrack reissue of acclaimed composer James Horner’s (STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN, ALIENS, GLORY, TITANIC) original motion picture score to the 1994 feature film dramatic thriller CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, starring Harrison Ford, James Earl Jones and Anne Archer, and directed by Phillip Noyce. Previously out of print, Horner’s propulsive orchestral score to the hit Jack Ryan dramatic thriller returns with this deluxe, stellar-sounding remastered presentation, expanded with previously unreleased music. Produced by Dan Goldwasser and mastered by Doug Schwartz from the studio’s original high-resolution Sony MSD-1200 Digital Audio Master Discs, this 2-CD presentation also features the film version of the main titles for the first time on a soundtrack release and includes exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Jeff Bond and classic art design by Goldwasser. I already have the previous, expanded PATRIOT GAMES release and there's no reason for me to upgrade to the new(er) edition of JURASSIC PARK (I'm more than happy with their previous 4-disc JP1 & JP2 version), so THIS is the jewel in the crown for me, this time around. I missed the previous Intrada expansion, so I will rectify that mistake with this shiny new version. So, that's two in the pot so far for my next Intrada order (WILLOW and this...double Horner). Just need some new Holdridge from BSX and something cool from Quartet and I'll be good to go

Can anyone point out the differences between the film and album versions of “The Ambush”?

Ah the "Clear and present danger" soundtrack, also known as "Commando II". D.S. Ummm…no. Have you ever listened to this score? Commando was more like 48Hrs 3. Those kettle drums throughout are no where to be found in this score. I think you need to listen again. I missed out on the Intrada and will definitely get this one. Great action score from Horner with a very military sound to it. The opening Coast Guard scene, the ambush and the rescue stuff at the end are gold. The bigger action cues are nothing like Command or 48 Hours. If anything, there's Sneakers and Aliens in there (along with the usual classical references).

I'd really like to know what the differences are between this and the previous release, in detail. These minor expansions of previous expansions are quite annoying. I accept that sometimes a missing track or alternate is found, but, even when it comes to my favourite composer, I have limits. Also, triple and quad dips take money away from other soundtracks that I don't have, and money is getting tighter by the day right now. So detailed information on the differences is vital as to whether I can justify the expenditure. This. There is no way that there is 28 minutes and (just over) a half of music of new music. 'TOTAL BONUS TIME' is just existing music with a few edits, and what the Intrada release did not include from the soundtrack album. I respect the renewal of these releases and will likely buy 1-2 of them - that aside, are these "film versions" from material that was NOT available before or are they merely edits of previously-released material, simply trimmed and rearranged to match what the music editor did for the film? Because if it's the latter, I wouldn't say that warrants a new release. As an example, I could make "film versions" of music from STAR WARS simply by trimming a few things here and there because the material has already been released, so I would just need to do the editing. I would hope there is actually something new about the sources of the film versions that was not available before, beyond just editing. This isn't meant as a criticism but trying to get a clear understanding of what "film version" means in this case.
