Continuing SEASON 3:

NOTE: I am noting all score use in tracked episodes and occasionally making notes; these are for myself, so I might get lucky and identify score later (in some cases I'll recognize it immediately and note the composer and/or episode). Feel free to go threw any episodes and see if you recognize any of the episodes score is tracked from (or other series taken from), otherwise, just ignore these posts.

The Cleave scored episode is still two episodes away, so some episode scores must have already been in the can earlier.

"All Nice and Legal" (11)
By: Nathan Van Cleave (as "Van Cleave")

This is the only effort by Cleave for the series.

Highlights:
  • 2:19 in.^

  • 8:52 in.^
  • 9:40 in.^
  • 15:04 in.

  • 1:05:29 in.^
  • 1:06:30 in.^
  • 1:11:04 in.^
  • 1:13:27 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^

Based on this effort, I'd say it was a shame Cleave didn't do more for the show. I wouldn't be opposed to a full release of the score. Bouncy, fun, and a memorable six-note theme. I consider this to be one of the best scores to the series.

Who would have thought that LLL would release a (over half hour long!) complete score from this series before you got even halfway through your traversal of the show!

Super cool and I hope they release a bigger set dedicated to the series’ music in the future.

This was a backdoor pilot for the series "Laredo", which was picked up and ran for two seasons. I covered that show. Marshall was one of the two main composers on that spin-off series.

There's an actor named X Brands. I had to look it up. Turns out he was born Jay X Brands. And no -- that's not a typo on my part. "X" is the middle name, taken from other family. So, no period after it.

There are no further scored episodes this season until the final one (which should be due from La La Land Records soon)

Turned out it was just the other Virginian score by Marshall ("Image of an Outlaw"), that LLL put on the Munsters set. Since that was well over half an hour long on its own I understand why they couldn't fit both if they also wanted to include his Wagon Train score and over half an hour of music he wrote for both seasons of The Deputy...

Yeah, exciting times. I recon outside of LLLR, music from "The Deputy" would have been released this side of never.

Yeah, much less a generous 36.5 minutes of it! Is The Deputy even a series you ever covered?

No, I have not covered it. No plans to either.

A full listing of all shows I have covered is posted in each TV series thread when I am done with the show. In this case, the last listing was posted in "Guns of Paradise":

In a co-guest-star role is Robert Lansing.

    Highlights:

  • 1:09:47 in.^
  • 1:11:03 in.^
  • 1:14:07 in.^
  • 1:15:52 in.^

Nothing particularly wrong with the score, it's just most of it is low-key and moody and I'm not sure how much of it I would want released on a set of season four scoring. But then again, I', not that far into the season and I don't know yet if there are episodes that deserve to have large amounts of their score released, so there could potentially be room. The previous episodes this season had the composer credit underneath the theme music credit, but here Leo and Jack get top billing (1:16:27).

    William Shatner is back again.

Cowboy Shatner: "I'll kill you if I have to!"
    Luke: "I believe you would."

Luke: "Sorry, fresh out of 'old times'."

    Continuing SEASON 4:

    "The Awakening" (5)
    By: Stanley Wilson (uncredited)
    https://ok.ru/video/4384217959077

    Highlights:
  • 0:45 in.^
  • 4:41 in.^
  • 7:27 in.^
  • 13:32 in.^
  • 17:44 in.^
  • 31:20 in.

  • 41:00 in.^
  • 43:00 in.
  • 47:45 in.^
  • 52:18 in.^
  • 56:36 in.^
  • 59:21 in.
  • 1:02:27 in.^
  • 1:15:22 in.

This is a good score. I'm not sure why Wilson didn't get or chose not to get credit. While I don't think every single cue needs to be released (though I cited nearly every single cue), I wouldn't be opposed to a full release of the score.

    "Ring of Silence" (6)
    Music Score: Sidney Fine
    https://ok.ru/video/2915826862839

    Highlights:
  • 4:21 in.^
  • 11:02 in.^
  • 15:15 in.^
  • 19:40 in.
  • 24:!5 in.^
  • 26:20 in.^
  • 29:45 in.^
  • 34:39 in.^
  • 39:34 in.
  • 41:21 in.
  • 48:43 in.^
  • 51:17 in. And the moderately bouncy-like cue after the commercial break.^
  • 55:55 in.^
  • 1:04:38 in.^
  • 1:11:06 in.^
  • 1:13:19 in.^

On a set of season four scoring, I'm not sure how much of this I would include.

    "Jennifer" (7)
    By: Hans J. Salter
    https://ok.ru/video/2915827845879

Unfortunately, this is the only effort by Salter for the series, though score from it was tracked into future episodes.

    Highlights:
  • 0:45 in.^
  • 3:21 in.^
  • 7:29 in.^
  • 8:12 in.^
  • 10:27 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 14:02 in.^
  • 16:18 in.^
  • 24:22 in.^
  • 25:18 in.^
  • 27:53 in.
  • 31:38 in.^
  • 32:22 in.^
  • 33:52 in.^
  • 36:49 in.^
  • 46:39 in.^
  • 48:34/51:12 in. Staccato brass and timpani opens this cue. The second cue sounds like a natural continuation of the first cue, and expands upon the brass and timpani material, so on a set of season four scoring I would combine them; it's a logical and natural combination.^
  • 52:41 in.^
  • 54:07 in.^
  • 55:33 in.^
  • 1:01:40 in.^
  • 1:04:41 in.^
  • 1:07:32 in.^
  • 1:08:22 in.^
  • 1:10:47 in.^
  • 1:13:33 in.^

A fine score from Salter. I think I cited probably every single cue. The complete score should be released.
Of note: Slater receives top billing over the Percy Faith theme music credit, which is atypical -- usually the composer gets credit underneath it.

(NtM: composer credit -- 1:16:21 in)

    "Nobility of Kings" (8)
    By: Bernard Herrmann
    https://ok.ru/video/2915828632311

    Highlights:
  • 0:45 in.^
  • 4:53 in. Meat-y energetic brass-lead cue that is a perfect demonstration of what fine television scoring is all about. More can be heard at 1:03:40 in (cited below).^
  • 8:35 in.^
  • 21:06 in.^
  • 22:35 in.^
  • 24:24 in.^
  • 25:17 in.^
  • 27:31 in.
  • 29:03 in. And the cue after the commercial break, which is yet again another fine example of television scoring.^
  • 34:02 in.
  • 37:17 in.^
  • 40:10 in.^
  • 43:40 in.
  • 46:17 in.
  • 47:46 in.
  • 49:36 in.^
  • 1:02:55 in.^
  • 1:03:40 in.^
  • 1:07:55 in.
  • 1:13:45 in.^

    (NtM: composer credit -- 1:16:25 in ~ 17:10, 1:10:57)

  • 1:02:42 in.^
  • 1:04:46 in.

A good quality score from Herrmann. They tracked this one a good deal throughout the season.

Leonard Nimoy also guest stars, again.

    Finishing SEASON 4:

This is the final season I have completed. It's very time consuming, so I'll have to pick it back up next year.

I continue the series at the beginning of May.

Heads up to Yavar: The next season contains a bizarre Jerry Goldsmith inclusion, without actually having Jerry Goldsmith. Surely an obscure point-of-interest for the Goldsmith Odyssey...
