WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3

GLORIOUS---trailer released for the Shudder horror movie starring Ryan Kwanten and JK Simmons.

LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esqxTzc3lgM

BATGIRL---Warner Bros. shelved the superhero movie starring Leslie Grace, Michael Keaton, Brendan Fraser and JK Simmons after it performed poorly in test screenings. The studio will take a tax write-down to recoup its $90 million production costs. The tax write-down would be a better deal for Warner Bros. because it would take another $30 million--$50 million to market it theatrically and its income on HBO Max would be worth less than the tax write-down. The studio will not be able to monetize the movies by streaming them or selling them to another studio. Warner Bros. also shelved SCOOBI!: HOLIDAY HAUNT and will also take a tax write-down on it.

MADAME WEB---photo released for Emma Roberts playing a pregnant character in the Spider-Man spinoff movie.

GODZILLA VS KONG---a photo from the film set indicates the sequel's working title is ORIGINS which may suggest it is really a prequel about the origins of Godzilla and/or Kong.

HAUNTED MANSION---Jamie Lee Curtis will play psychic ghost Madame Leota and Jared Leto will play Hatbox Ghost in the Walt Disney remake movie based on the theme park attraction.

ALIEN---FX head John Landgraf said Noah Hawley has completed all the scripts for the tv series which starts production in 2023.

THE EXORCIST---Ann Dowd will co-star with Leslie Odom, Jr. and Ellen Burstyn in the David Gordon Green sequel to the original horror movie. It will be the first of a trilogy.

WORKING GIRL---Selena Gomez is in negotiations to be the producer of the reboot of the 1988 movie that starred Melanie Griffith, Sigourney Weaver and Harrison Ford.

TOMB RAIDER 2---MGM cancelled the sequel because it had problems keeping the original rights, creative differences between Alicia Vikander and writer/director Misha Green and budget overruns.

EVERYBODY STILL HATES CHRIS---MTV animated reboot of EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS with Chris Rock returning as the narrator.

TRIVIA---Ed Harris played a member of NASA in three hit movies. In THE RIGHT STUFF, Harris played astronaut John Glenn. In APOLLO 13, Harris played Mission Control White Team Flight Director Gene Kranz. In GRAVITY, Harris played the voice of Mission Control Director.

When you scuttle a $90 million movie it must be really really bad

Dam was looking forward to this whether it was good or bad. Was looking forward to see Michael Keaton as Batman again and see Brendan Fraser again. Shocked it tested that bad it's been shelved.

When you scuttle a $90 million movie it must be really really bad

This movie's release was always head-scratcher for me. I never understood why there was so much talk of a theatrical release for something that looks like another CW show. It's never fun for all involved but most already got paid for their work and cancelling it makes sense strategy wise. WBD made it clear in the past they want to reboot the DCCU. Why would they release more movies now knowing they'll have to undo the story, character arcs, etc. within them?

Thanks, Dragon!

Is it just me or is the New Godzilla much like the New Coke? Sheesh!

I think I'll start a protest group "Resist Godzilla"! - for old codgers like me that remember when Godzilla (Gojira) was a bada$$ Kaiju! Who's with me?

Maybe because it looked like Batwoman 2.0.

I am with you, but the idea that companies can light $90 million on fire, wow, it just boggles.
I cannot appreciate much of what hits the theaters, but at least some of it entertains someone. The only upside to this $90 million bonfire, it gave some people good jobs for a while.

Without original author William Peter Blatty around anymore to write it, I can't get interested in this.

Why do you think it looks like another CW show when you've never seen it in motion? Do you not think the people behind the camera were trying to make the best movie they could? "Most already got paid?" What defense is this for WB/Discovery's piss poor public corporate malfeasance? Should not everyone be paid for their time and labor?

The bigger question is why do you think it would make a lick of a difference if WB/Discovery rebooted for yet another attempt at a cinematic universe to once again compete with a competitor so far ahead in the race?

This is just another event in the withering decline of one of the greatest movie studios after they were acquired by a telecommunications company and then tossed aside to a documentary television conglomerate like expired leftovers when HBO Max didn't quite hit the ground running. It is quickly becoming a place announcing to creatives that it isn't worth taking the job... because there will be no reward for the risk of hard-work and time spent.

I still think the Batwoman disaster has something to do with this.

Glorious just out of left field... looks great! Putting the horror in horror, perhaps Rod Serling style.

Ive heard people bagging on the outfit for Batgirl. It looks pretty good to me and shockingly very close to the original Batgirl costume design. So much better than Batwoman. I just didn't know they hired AOC to play the titular character.

Keep your racist and political rhetoric off the board. You're breaking two rules with one sentence, Solium.

She looks like AOC in this pic, thus the joke. It was neither a racist or political comment.

Sol didn't break anything.
Don't get bent out of shape over a harmless joke.

Yeah, Solium didn't break any rule. But keeping after him places LeHah into the third rule in Community Rules.

I don't follow the CW shows, what is the "Batwoman disaster?"

Nope.

2) No political or religious discussion

And very likely

5) One screen name only

He mentioned a person, not the person's politics or make a underhanded political comment. Again, no he didn't. And also not violating #5 either; it does not say you cannot use your real name, and many members do; and it can't be for citing another non member, 'cause that's not a thing in #5. You, however, are being a jerk, as noted on #3. The problem with this thread right now, is you. Please, just step back -- there are other threads.
