THURSDAY, AUGUST 4

JOKER 2: FOLIE A DEUX---teaser trailer and synopsis released for the sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, “Director Todd Phillips’ original, stand-alone origin story Joker explores the world of—and according to—Arthur Fleck. Indelibly portrayed by Phoenix, Arthur is a man facing the cruelty and outright scorn of society, along with the indifference of a system that allows him to spiral from vulnerability into depravity. A clown-for-hire by day, he strives to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds that the joke always seems to be on him. He’s out of tune with everyone around him, as evidenced by his uncontrollable, inappropriate laughter, which gains momentum as he attempts to contain it, exposing him to further ridicule—and even violence.
Arthur, who devotes himself to caring for his fragile mother, seeks out every father figure he’s never had, from wealthy businessman Thomas Wayne to TV host Murray Franklin. Caught in a cyclical existence teetering on the precipice of reality and madness, one bad decision brings about a chain reaction of escalating, ultimately deadly, events.”

DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY---Keanu Reeves stars in this Hulu miniseries based on the book about serial killer Henry H. Holmes, who killed at least 27 people in his horror hotel, known as the Murder Castle, near the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are the co-producers.

SUPERGIRL---after Warner Bros. cancelled BATGIRL, ROLLING STONE says the studio has apparently cancelled another DC superhero movie, SUPERGIRL, starring Sasha Calle.

STAR WARS: ANDOR---showrunner Tony Gilroy confirmed that the series will last only two seasons.

TOM CRUISE---Christopher McQuarrrie said he and Tom Cruise are already working on a post-MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movie that will not emphasize the action scenes, “It’s kind of under wraps. It has neither a fuse nor a fuselage. Oh that’s not true. It does have some fuselages. It’s something we’ve talked about for a really long time.
It’s way outside of what you’re used to seeing Tom do. It’s the kind of stuff I really love. It’s a little bit more in my wheelhouse. And yet it takes everything we’ve learned on this journey, which is making movies more and more about emotion and real emotional experiences.
That’s what you’re feeling when you’re watching ‘Top Gun’ – it’s me and Tom squeezing your adrenals for every emotion. Now we’re applying that to something that is gnarlier.”

ADOPTION---Ellen Pompeo will star in this untitled Hulu eight-part miniseries based on the true story of a couple that adopted a six-year Ukrainian orphan girl suffering from dwarfism who turned to be an adult who attempted to murder her new family. The synopsis says, “As they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, they slowly start to believe she may not be who she says she is,” reads the synopsis. “They start questioning her story, leading them to be confronted with hard questions of their own about the lengths they’re willing to go to defend themselves, falling into a battle that’s fought in the tabloids, the courtroom, and ultimately their marriage.”

BANG!---Idris Elba will star in the Netflix movie based on the comic book. David Leitch is the director.

ROAD HOUSE---UFC champ Conor McGregor will co-star with Jake Gyllenhaal in the Amazon remake of the Patrick Swayze movie.

FIRST KILL---Netflix cancelled the lesbian vampire series.

OUTLANDER: BLOOD OF MY BLOOD---Starz sequel is underway which focuses on Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser.

ACTION MOVIES---HEAT director Michael Mann commented on the current action movies, "I’m just bored by it. It’s not very interesting. I mean, sometimes the choreography is so outrageous that it’s fascinating, and it is quite good. But generally, no. It’s just stale."

That sounds like the first film, not a sequel plot .. ?

And in less than 20 seconds that teaser manages to be as annoyingly pretentious as the entire first film roll eyes

wink

Wait.
A Tom Cruise movie that relies on subtle, nuanced character moments rather than 'splosions 'n' stuff?
Tom, are you sure about this?

Adoption just sounds like that thriller Orphan (John Ottman scored) only dragged out by many, many more hours.

Nice stat but i watched Eagles once to do the Eastwood body count, and even generously allowing for all germans killed by bombs he leaves and sets, it is nowhere near 99. More like 50 odd. It feels like 99.
But it was more than Stallone in Rambo 2.

BILLCARSON:

I just watched it again, and I got approximately 59.
The "99" came from one of those movie bodycount websites---I saw "99" listed on several sources, so maybe it's the original source being repeated over and over with verification.

Although the original article says it Clint Eastwood's bodycount, I wonder if the 99 is really all Germans killed in the movie (by Eastwood, Richard Burton, Mary Ure, et al.).

They may be adding in the ones that Burton kills as well.

Its possible drag, and that might be not far off.

Euh,...... 'Where Eagles Dare' may easily be the dumbest WW2 movie i've ever seen!

It’s up there with 1941. Iconic score, though - in my top three WW2 scores, I’d say, along with Cross of Iron and Kelly’s Heroes. It’s very late at night, so one or two might have evaded me, but I don’t think so.

Is there really more to tell regarding The Joker? I thought the film was fine on its own.

Yeah, one-and-done seemed like enough to me. More than enough.

Sacrilege. Sure, its a deliberately preposterous plot but that is the point of it

BILLCARSON:

I watched TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA to confirm the reliability of the website's bodycount which says 24. I counted 29 which includes Eastwood clubbing several French soldiers in the big battle scene. Assuming those several clubbed weren't really killed, then the 24 appears accurate for Eastwood because the total bodycount for the entire movie would easily be double or triple via the big battle scene.

I'll check out a few more Eastwoood movies later.

Bottom line---the website's Eastwood's bodycount of 99 for WHERE EAGLES DARE doesn't make sense.

Where Eagles Dare is surprisingly violent, but a good film.
The machine gun fire is pretty massive though. I love that whole cable car bit.

I haven't seen the film in decades but I remember really enjoying it.
