Tamponi did a couple of Ennio scores from memory. Certainly two or three at least. Cant remember without checking

Dear Red Sonja - you never sounded THAT good. Your End Titles still get my eyes wet with tears of joy. Sonja, you are my favorite Morricone, since the moment I've heard your first notes so many years ago. Thank you Quartet ! ! !

Back up for pre-order, which I just did, but note that Quartet is closed for the rest of August...

To those who got it already, how much bonus material is there in your opinion in the film score selections ? Indeed, I've seen RED SONJA many years ago and can't tell anymore if the LP program contained most of the material featured in the movie or not. I guess the bonus tracks are mostly variations of the known tracks. Anyway, thanks in advance. And kudos to Quartet for releasing it.

I think the film score is about 1/2 minutes longer. I'll check a bit later. The notes say things like 'the drum rolls weren't used'. So a fee secondsnhere n there.maybe.

Album= 37.48

Just played my copy...."Sonja" has never sounded so good, and if you'll pardon the "cliche" it's like hearing it for the first time.
My thanks to Quartet and especially the brilliant Chris Malone !
....and of course Ennio.

I received my copy the other day and I've been enjoying the presentation immensely, so thanks to Quartet and Chris Malone.

A few observations:

The sound is as good as we're ever likely to get. The stereo tracks are clear and free of distortion or other unwanted artifacts of time. The booklet doesn't give us any technical information, unfortunately. It seems that "Temple Raid" has a bit more material at the end than the original lp and cd releases. It used to fade out but we now have a few more seconds and a definite resolving note which has been appended to the end - if this is editorial work or some better source I can't say but the change is most welcome. "The Gate Of Brytag" has always had a sudden and unwelcome edit at the very end which has been addressed and the results are just right. I believe "Talisman II" was inadvertently left off the previous cd release - is was there on the Varese lp and limited cd. The unneeded repeat of "Entering The Castle" has been eliminated. RED SONJA's "End Credits" has always been one of my favorite Morricone cues and it sounds lovely here.

The mono cues are apparently from the edited music stems. The audio isn't nearly as rich and full as the stereo tracks (apart from being mono) and there are occasionally audible edits. Still, the presence of these cues is welcome as we get some new material. The completely new cue is "A Way Out." Other cues appear to be alternates to stereo cues with new intros and end tags. For example, "Sonya Is Watched" is a variation on "The Gate Of Brytag." "Silence" presents "Sonja Defeats The Queen" with a new intro attached. "The Talisman Arrives" presents "The Gate Of Brytag" with a snare drum overlay.

All in all a welcome and highly desirable release.

I had the opportunity to watch HUNDRA (1983) on YouTube which is a sort of little sister to RED SONJA - there are numerous thematic connections between the two scores, though in every case SONJA is the more musically developed and interesting. One segment of SONJA's choral battle music was lifted note for note from HUNDRA - with the chorus chanting "HUN-DRA! HUN-DRA!" instead of "SON-JA! SON-JA!" All the soundtrack issues of HUNDRA have been cursed with lousy sound so owners of the RED SONJA soundtrack will have little incentive to seek out the earlier score.

I received my copy of Red Sonja today courtesy of Chris' Soundtrack Corner. Shipping was very prompt and the CD was well packaged.

I'm listening to it right now. I'm delighted that I don't have to "ride the volume control" with this one.
