I've been reading the thread about Intrada's upcoming releases on August 16 and it's been mentioned on more than one occasion that a rejected score may be in the mix.
I began going through my collection and to my surprise, realized that I only have the following rejected scores:
GLADIATOR (1992) - Goldsmith THE GOLDEN CHILD (1986) - Barry THE PUBLIC EYE (1992) - Goldsmith THE RIVER WILD (1994) - Jarre SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES (1983) - Delerue TORN CURTAIN (1966) - Herrmann THE WHITE BUFFALO (1977) - Shire
Obviously, rejected scores are very under-represented in my collection. Part of that has to do with how few have been released, but it's also a matter of my being very unfamiliar with them.
Of the rejected scores that have been released, do you have any favorites? Do you enjoy these favorites more than the score that was used in the film?
Also, if you could choose one rejected score that hasn't been officially released yet, what would it be?
Thanks for your time!
EDIT: As people continue to list their favorites, I continue to discover more rejected scores that are part of my collection and have added them to my list.

GLADIATOR (1992) - Goldsmith THE PUBLIC EYE (1992) - Goldsmith SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES (1983) - Delerue

I tried to listen to Jerry Goldsmith’s Gladiator….my opinion is it is truly Tedious and never goes anywhere..Hoosiers takes up Boxing, in a Bad Way. It is Clunky and Cheesy. I can truly understand why it was 100% Rejected.
The 3 rejected Elmer Bernstein scores on that Varese box set are all ace. Morricone's What Dreams May Come is pretty good too And I love the excerpts from the rejected Molly Maguires score by Charles Strouse on the Kritzerland expanded edition. I'm also quite partial to Michel Legrand's rejected score to Man Who Loved Cat Dancing, included on the FSM release. Not saying they're better than the scores that finished up in the fillums, but I sure do enjoy them in their own right.
But Pino Donaggio's Ordeal By Innocence IS much better than the inappropriate jazz music that ended up in/ruined that film.
Jerry Goldsmith: TWO DAYS IN THE VALLEY Elmer Bernstein: LAST MAN STANDING Christopher Young: AN UNFINISHED LIFE Ennio Morricone: WHAT DREAMS MAY COME Alex North: 2001 - A SPACE ODYSSEY
Edit ('cause I forgot): Maurice Jarre: THE RIVER WILD... that's really a good score. I love Goldsmith's score, but I don't know why the producers felt to ditch Jarre's score (which they already had), because, at least when listened to on its own, it's quite an excellent score.
Honoeable mention: LEGEND, which was used in Europe.

I wish I had got that Berstein box set from Varese when I had the chance. I've always been curious about his take on GANGS OF NEW YORK.
Last time I checked, Kritzerland still had ORDEAL BY INNOCENCE for sale. I'm tempted to pull the trigger on this one.
Tom Scott's Neighbors tops my list. Other favorites:
Alien Nation (Goldsmith) Gladiator (Goldsmith) The Golden Child (Barry) Last Man Standing (Bernstein) Ordeal by Innocence (Donaggio) The River Wild (Jarre) Timeline (Goldsmith) 2 Days in the Valley (Goldsmith) The White Buffalo (Shire)
AIR FORCE ONE (Randy Newman) and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE (Alan Silvestri).
Both are very well-developed and equally unfit IMO for their respective movies (but for different reasons). Newman's AFO for being too comical, and Silvestri's M:I for being too cheesy/conventional.
But both are very exciting, score the action well, and have coherent compositional developments.
