Hi all, here's my attempt at rewriting the music from the first Season with Christophe Becks themes and a bit in his style. But really only a bit. Not really actually. A very small bit maybe... But I use his themes as much as possible.
I think it's good to know that this is the first time that I scored a complete episode of television. I increased the camp factor of this show by roughly 300% by total overscoring it. The Master Theme is an evil waltz and most of the music is beyond over the top. And I like over the top scoring. Here is the first two cues from the rescore:

I scored the Disney+ Version because DVDs are running at different speeds across the globe.

Wow, I must say you've done a really great job here! It still has some of the season 1 "feel" to it, but at the same time much more interesting. And you can tell that you have given more thought into it compared to what goes on in the picture. And I loved hearing the Buffy/Angel theme!

Being 'more interesting' was my main goal. I'm glad it worked. Due to hardware/software limitations I was very restricted in terms of how many instruments I can use and chose to exlude any synth pads (but it may changes for the more stand-alone episodes). I used therefore some instruments as 'motif', like the brass thrills everytime a Vimpire does/will do/did some biting or the choir only playing during supernatural happenings or talking about them.
The Season 1 feel was most likely because I constantly listened to Murphy's original score while rescoring and sometimes got 'inspired' by it and kinda adapted it like the moment in 1M14 at 04:01.
I rewatched 1x02 yesterday and did the spotting but I don't when it'll be finished. It needs more music than 1x01... Possibly in 4-5 weeks.
Here is the rescore of 1x02: "The Harvest". Instead of piano suspense music, is this score full of low string pizzicato for the master scenes. Theres a big action cue with "Rats And Jesse" & "Escape" and an 8 minute beast for the finale at the bronze. I had two ideas for 2M10 "My Blood Is Your Blood": V1 with the Master Theme and organ ostinatos and V2 a more mystic approach with the Magic/Ritual theme which I decided to use in the end.
Here is the rescore of 1x03: "Witch". The first self contained Buffy Episode. Lots of Glockenspiel, Celeste and female solo Voice in this. Some of it could be from a Disney Musical... Or a Ballet...

I transposed Djawadi's cue to make the similarities more obvious. My Buffy rescore is mostly in e-minor because Nerf Herders theme is in that key and so is most of Djawadi's GoT/HotD music in c-minor.
The rythm is just 100% the same. My version even also goes to c-major sometimes in "The Harvest" & "Witch". The only differences are that my theme starts on a fifth and it goes back to e-minor and the different instrumentation. Both themes eventually go and expand in different directions but these opening bars are just nearly the same.
I wrote this cue on september 4th, the day BEFORE the episode containing "Surrender" aired (HotD premieres on monday in germany).
Option a is that this theme appeared in episode 1 or 2 in HotD and I got unaware inspired by it. Option b: this is a fucking coincidence.
Here is the rescore of 1x04: "Teacher's Pet". There are some synths in it and a theme in 7/8 for Natalie French. I mean.. the fake one... And there's also some kind of atonal music for the ant stuff. I am not really a fan of this episode. My motivation scoring this episode went away and I started scoring 1x05 & 1x06 instead. "The Pack" is probably finished before "Never Kill A Boy..." so that will be most likely the next one. It also shouldn't take as long.

I know the track title is maybe a it misleading but you have to understand that "Willows Feelings Towards Xander And Xander Does Not Love Her Back" would be a too long track title. And I can announce that a very sweet Chris Beck cue will be hidden somewhere in 1x06...

Just curious... do you ever take requests? There is one specific cue in a season 1 Angel episode I've been obsessed about sine 1999 and it just seems like it will never get released...its my favorite cue of all times! Is this something you do? Just had to ask! lol!

The beginning of Snow's cue indeed has a similar "vibe" due to similar piano rythms and orchestration. But they quickly depart from each other when Snow's cue harmonically goes where no one has gone before...

Yeah I think this is my favorite scene from the whole show. So heartbreaking! This is the "best" version I have of it. There's a somewhat awkward edit at 2:30, but I always pictured this cue to end with that very final part which closes the episode. This would be so amazing to have in a clean and proper version! Like a dream come true!
