It seems like one of the few genres where an American studio may actually allow him to write something fully melodic again.
What genre is that? (This isn't a rhetorical question. I honestly can't figure out what this movie is going to be!)
It appears, unless I'm wildly mistaken, that it's going to be a very campy, over the top comedy/social satire.
All the photos from the set show MASSIVELY stylized costumes and design in general. I have to imagine this is going to be a big, bold, intentionally cartoonish film, with clever layers of wit and commentary. The Lego Movie, only with humans, is kind of what I'm sensing this is meant to be, which would be AMAZING.
I'm guessing it also might be somewhat similar to the brilliant and wildly underrated Down With Love, from 2003, with Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor.
I don't understand what you mean. Composers are versatile artists, able to write a variety of different musical styles for a variety of different films. That's why we loved them so much.

Well, for some reason, I picture something fluffy and synth-poppy for this, and that's not a style Desplat has explored very often. But maybe that's just because I have Aqua's "Barbie Girl" stuck on my mind whenever I read about this project, and this will sound nothing like that at all, or it does, and Desplat breaks new ground. Time will tell.
