and now this..."Mark Ronson & Andrew Wyatt (A Star Is Born) have taken over scoring duties on upcoming fantasy comedy Barbie. As previously reported, Alexandre Desplat was originally attached to score the movie."

I like Greta Gerwig. I like Noah Baumbach. I really want to believe there’s some new satire to mine about Barbie being an impossible aspiration and a symbol of plastic consumer culture. I really want to believe it. I also want to believe in the afterlife. But I’m having my doubts.

I'm probably the only person who likes this composer switch. As I alluded to earlier, I felt this project needed an electronic score composed by electronic specialists, and given the new names, it seems likely that is indeed a possible direction for this.

Based on who's handling music now, feeling an effort to keep it modern & plastic - assuming the more cynical art-house approach didn't fly with the studio, so addio Desplat.

Shame, this looked kind of fun. Sure that appeasing the 86 of us is less important than the millions a revamped generic piece of pop trash will surely now reach.

Desplat is replaced.

Well, that's unfortunate, because now I'm less inclined to watch the movie.

Not all times, of course, but late in the game score switcheroo's usually signal one thing.
They're sitting on a turd.
From a two time Oscar winner and revered composer to a couple of producer/DJ types eek

I'll still see it. But I'm looking forward to the music as much.

I could totally see a electronic score working for this. Don't know who the composers are though.

They are contemporary music producers, songwriters and artists. Expecting "an electronic score", is hilarious.

Turn on Top 40 American radio right now - that is what this will sound like.

I'm not sure I would call Ronson an "electronic specialist," he is a very talented musician and producer however. I mostly associate his sound with the Funk and Hip Hop genre (cue the elderlies holding their ears). Desplat is great, and great with electronics. And Ronson is an interesting voice in pop music. I honestly can't be mad about anything.

I am actually excited about this. Ronson brought a great sound to the otherwise awful “Mortdecai” and I’ve been following him since he produced Amy Winehouse’s Back in Black. Expecting a pop sound for a pop movie!

Ronson actually writes music and is very talented at it, to the point that he amazingly gets top artist billing for a lot of songs he writes while the famous singer performing just gets a “featuring” credit. Here’s my favorite Ronson song… and I actually think it’s pretty old fashioned in a lot of ways and would appeal to quite a few old timers here… in fact to me it’s such a throwback if sounds like something Peggy Lee could have sung in the 1950s!

Love the melody, the lyrics, the string writing, and the acoustic guitar element that Ronson is performing himself. He’s a legit musician and not what you’re painting him as.

Whether it's pop or electronic, or some form of blend, I can easily see this working with the type of gaudy, camp satire the film appears to go for. So this actually made me MORE interested in this project than I was before.

The new trailer actually think kindly about the Transformers movies.

Self-awareness is overrated.
