Revolver is the next Beatles remaster (plus extras) being released on October 28th. There's the 5 disc version for people who have won the lottery, but the 2 disc will be fine for me, £20, cheaper than any soundtrack I could buy from the US- EDIT, in fact a LOT cheaper with the pound (& euro) drop against the dollar.

I've been enjoying the collective insanity on full display about this very release over on the Hoffman board.
Oh, what a circus that place can be (and not in the good way).

Yes, I like to check that site out. I haven't joined yet, but I'm thinking of it.

Amigo, you don't need to join it to be able to read the "discussions" that take place there.
You would be hard pressed to find a more badly-run forum--and I'm putting it politely.

I'm not a member of the SHF, but count me amongst those extremely disappointed about the absence of a blu-ray audio disc with surround sound. It will be digital only & possibly (probably?) via streaming only, i.e. not available to be downloaded. This will be the first time I won't purchase a Beatles super deluxe edition. I "might" get the 2 disc version, though I'm still undecided.

Oh, and SHF is not the only forum where Beatles' fans are voicing their displeasure, eg. "Super Deluxe Edition", etc.

I was willing to spring for the full box sets on Abbey Road and Let it Be, but not the rest.

With the download options available, I'll go for the two CD set. Those boiled-down CD sets of the Beatles remasters are just fine on their own.

I've been reading up on the "de-mixing" extraction technique used on the original four-tracks.

https://theseconddisc.com/2022/09/07/and-your-bird-can-sing-the-beatles-revolver-goes-super-deluxe-in-october/

And I've listened to the reconstituted "Taxman".

Nice work. I'll still go for the two CD set, especially since CD 2 leads off with the new mixes of "Paperback Writer" and "Rain".

Thanks for the tip, Rameau!

This is awesome! Revolver may be my favorite album of The Beatles. Especially the UK version.
I'm still bitter at Capitol all these years later at their rip-off versions of their albums!
"Tomorrow Never Knows" (coined by John from one of Ringo's malaprops) is my favorite track. I got some puzzled looks from my folks when I first played it. I loved all that stuff John worked into the recording.
Ordered the two-disc set via Amazon, now I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas.

Yeah, thanks, Rameau! I'll definitely be getting this, hopefully in the Deluxe format... smile

All this reminded me that I hadn't got around to buying the deluxe 2-disc Abbey Road, so I ordered & it arrived a couple of days ago. I love buying CDs, but I don't buy that many these days, what I want I already have & there's not many releases that interest me now (which reminds me that I haven't bought a soundtrack all year - could this be a soundtrack-less year? Still a couple of months to go).

Wow, they take their music very seriously over at the Steve Hoffman forum:

"I noticed on the new Taxman that there’s momentary compression in the 36Hz range that indicates a newly introduced artefact at 1:53, as observed in a spectral analysis of the waveform. This is obviously a result of disrespectral digital molestation in the upper regions.
When compared with an original twin-track transfer which I then downsampled in Cubebase at 44/128 using a proprietary algorithm, the offending harmony note is absent, therefore ruining this new so called “remix”.
You have thought this Giles Martin person would have instantly noticed this and not made such a schoolboy error as to not have immediately tweaked it by running an analogue limiter via direct inject bo selecta re-rewind RCA curve emulation, which is readily available to anyone with ears.

Based on this, the new box set is a totally unlistenable worthless mistake and I will be donating my copy to a charity shop as soon as it arrives."

You are being very diplomatic with your description.
At that website they suck the fun out of music to such a ridiculous degree that one would be forgiven for thinking that they all actually hate music.

Surely, that post was satire, no? It looks to me like a poster was poking fun at some of the more zealous audiophiles out there.

Yeah, probably is, but it was worth quoting, & it's only a slight exaggeration of some of the posts on there.

So, did anyone else end up getting this? Mine arrived yesterday, and I'm loving it... smile

EDIT: It's hard to believe the instrumental backing track of "Rain" (the B-side of "Paperback Writer") was actually originally performed at such a fast tempo, only to be slowed way down to the speed we're used to... embarrassment

Hi, Rameau. Just out of curiosity, are you buying it on CD or vinyl? I got the CD package, but it seems most people these days are buying the vinyl box set. (In fact, my local Barnes & Noble was carrying the vinyl, but not the CD set.)

You can preview the whole super deluxe package on this album over at YouTube, and I suggest starting with this track:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gBcdOFehNCg

You will have to click and search for all the other tracks.

I've found the remixing on this to be so availing that I'm now going for the 5 CD set and the hi-res download.

You can't neglect a classic.

Na, the two CD set. I did pop out to an HMV shop today to pick it up...& they didn't have it in stock, so much for trying to buy it from an actual shop.

I ordered the 2-cd set when it was announced and received it this past Sunday (10/30). I really am enjoying it very much!
Definitely sounds cleaner, maybe somewhat more "punchy" - in a good way. Better bass, sharper drums, etc.

I enjoy the bonus disc as well. If this had been available ~50 years ago, and I truly wish it had been, I'd likely have been even more enthusiastic, what with hearing The Beatles working out their sound, brief dialogue, etc.

Somewhat related, when I listen to Paperback Writer (Bonus Disc), I'm reminded of Paul having stated that they were dissatisfied that on their albums the bass didn't come through as he/they would have preferred. I may be mistaken, but I believe the great bass licks on PW as released, were the results of their complaints.
I remember when I first heard the song I was delighted how good the bass was even back then.

Thanks again for the tip, Rameau! wink
