I just saw this in a Facebook post by one of Thomas Newman's regular collaborators, who wrote: "I am really enjoying working with Thomas Newman on the Tom Hanks movie A Man Called Otto. Originally a Swedish movie called A Man Called Ove."
A new upcoming Thomas Newman project that is out in december this year. It is by the same director as his upcoming White Bird movie.

“A Man Called Ove” is a near-perfect film. Can’t help but think that whatever the magic ingredient is that makes it so won’t survive the crossing.

You've got to hope that Tom Hanks brings a bit of quality to the table and Marc Forster can be an interesting director. Was there not a bidding war for the film? I assume it will be an awards push with Newman having the overdue narrative.
Any confirmation of this yet or the release of the score for White Bird? Maybe explains why he couldn't do Empire of Light

I like the original Swedish film from 2015, a delightful black comedy with the legendary Rolf Lassgård in the title role. It also sports an excellent score by Gaute Storaas, which we nominated for the Harpa award for best Nordic Film Score that following year.
Newman sounds like a guy who can do the offbeat tone well; looking forward to sampling it and to hear if it has anything in common with the original Storaas at all.
Haha..HARRISON FORD would have been perfect for this role.I´m sure Hanks delivers..but this trailer looks like such an old story...nothing special .It has been told a thousand times already..grumpy old fart gets a new spark in life by learning to like people ( kids) again...yawwwwn.. But who knows maybe it works as a whole moviTrailers can be misleading. Never saw the original which is probably more gritty and edgy and most of the time the american remakes are well..not that good.....lets see

I also liked the Swedish film which was based upon Fredrick Backman's wonderful novel A Man Called Ove. (Backman is Swedish.)
The novel had more themes than just a grumpy man learning to like people. It was comedic in places and also very serious as well as heartfelt. A Man Called Otto with Tom Hanks looks good. However, A Man Called Ove took place in Sweden which has a different medical system than America, so I'm not sure how the American version will deal with a friend's medical dilemma.
I'd never heard of either film - but that has been rectified and I can tell just by watching the trailer that there's no subtlety - it looks just like what you'd think. The Swedish film is perfection - every role perfectly cast and the director never lets the tone go astray. They don't push the emotional buttons - they're just there, simple, and that's why it's moving. The score (never heard of the composer) is wonderful. Already bought it. The American version looks like classic Oscar-bait year-end stuff. I wish they'd leave all the Swedish movies alone, frankly.
I like it. Although it is obviously not anywhere near his best work and I doubt that I will revisit this score much in the future. There are so many other Newman scores that I like much better. For me though this is still easily one of the best scores of the year. I did not expect this score to be released this year, a pleasant surprise. Here's hoping that Newman will end up getting an Oscar nomination for this.
