I’m sure Varese really appreciated you preempting their announcement on Friday. It’s no longer surprise.

You may want to take up your grievances with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra since they're the ones who released this information.

Awesome release BTW!

I'll be there. Yesterday the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra sent me an application to win one of the 5 copies. So what's to loose? I filled it out and sent it in. Hey, you never know!

It took spunk to ruin this surprise. To quote a sitcom set in Indianapolis, "I hate spunk."*

*I don't really hate spunk, I do hate spoilers...

An extra 30 minutes of music. Nice! I only saw the movie once and that was year's ago, so I have really no idea of what was left off. And of course, there could be alternates as well and cues that weren't in the film. Anyway, sounds good! I for one am glad the surprise was spoiled. It's just one day less of not knowing. I'll take that!

I also entered contest. Not with my luck, actually. But who knows?..

Actually, the sitcom you're quoting from was set in Minneapolis. So sayeth the late, great Ed Asner.

Imagine caring about a cooperate announcement so much you chastise people for 'ruining' it a mere day early.

D'OH! I blame being a Brit for not being aware of it...to be fair, how quotable are One Day At A Time (the original) and Good Morning, Miss Bliss* (which were set there post a bit of research...)?

*Good Morning, Miss Bliss was what became Saved By The Bell.

It was a surprise. It was just a surprise a day early.

Very welcome news indeed.

I highly doubt that Varese cares that the news went out early. I'm sure they were the ones who set up the Indianapolis Symphony cd giveaway. Secrecy isn't the goal - sales is. And "there's no such thing as bad publicity" as the saying goes.

To each their own. I love this score. One of my favorite Goldsmith's from the 90's.

YAY: One of my remaining grails, I am so excited to finally have this.

NAY: Goddammit I haven't traveled for work in years and of course I'll be at a conference tomorrow. This better last longer than 12 hours.

Perusing the samples it looks like everything is here. For anyone asking about unreleased highlights, IMO there are a few:

- "No Catch" (track 2) is actually the film's main title cue and presents a gentle, lilting version of the main theme when we first meet Rudy playing football in the snow as a kid. I was hoping the album "Main Title" might be moved to its rightful place in sequence as the end title cue but whatever, that's no big deal.

- "More Training" (track 12) is a minor key variation on the main theme that covers the second "okay it's now or never I really need to get in or I'm screwed" montage. In a score where so much of the material is open and plaintive, it's a nice change of pace with a bit of a ghostly edge to it.

- "Accepted" (track 13) is probably the biggest highlight from the unreleased material, for the scene when Rudy finally gets in to Notre Dame. It's a great mix of tones as Goldsmith weaves from the hesitant, minor key "waiting" material into a grand statement of the main theme. Great stuff.
