A question to those in the know, i.e. who have the Quartet CD release from 2018.

Old thread there: https://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=127144

Original title "BETA SOM" aka "FINCHÈ DURA LA TEMPESTA"
English title: "TORPEDO BAY"
Music composed by Carlo Rustichelli
Conducted by Franco Ferrara

Question: Are all tracks on the Quartet CD credited to Rustichelli as the composer, or are other names involved as well?

I ask because I've found out on ASCAP's repertory that there was also music composed for this film by Giuseppe De Luca, Vincenco Feraldo and Luigi Naddeo.

IMDb also lists Roberto Nicolosi as co-composer. But De Luca, Feraldo and Naddeo aren't listed there anywhere.

So, I'd like to know if anything from those gentlemen has made its way on the CD, be it credited or uncredited?

None of them is mentioned on the Quartet release. Neither in the booklet, nor in the tracklisting. Everything is credited to Rustichelli.

Thanks alot for looking that up.

So this could mean that the CD doesn't present the entire score and and left off the non-Rustichelli pieces. Or the music is complete on the CD and consequently might miscredit a few tracks to Rustichelli.

Quartet CD has 32 tracks incl. the six tracks from the original EP.

I suspect that some, if not all of the source music has been composed by Italian composer, conductor, arranger and trombonist Giuseppe De Luca (1936-1974), along Vincenco Feraldo [whoever he was?] and Luigi Naddeo (1934-2009). Naddeo composed many pieces for both orchestra and vocals, songs, romances and band music.

On the other hand, I'm not sur Nicolosi actually had anything to do with this film.

Nicolosi worked with Naddeo on at least one other score in the same year, so if I had to take a guess, he might have been the musical director for themes not composed by Rustichelli?

I don´t think that Nicolosi had anything to do with the music for TORPEDO BAY. Probably a wrong entry on IMDB.
It´s all about a song from 1962 (first sung by Miranda Martino) with the title "Me ne infischio" which is sung in French in the movie itself and which is not by Rustichelli. This song was composed by Giuseppe De Lucia (not De Luca!) and Luigi Naddeo whereas the lyricist was Vincenzo Faraldo.
All three of them are listed in the SIAE database as authors for this song (which is owned by CAM).

Here we go again, at least it's less convoluted a story than those before.

ASCAP clearly credits Giuseppe De Luca[!] (not "Lucia") for writting "TORPEDO BAY CUES" (which, after all we've found out now, must be in fact the French version "Je m'en fiche" of the Italian original "Me ne infischio") performed by Miranda Martino. De Luca shares the credit together with Naddeo and Feraldo.

I assume we talk of this man here:
https://www.discogs.com/de/artist/61497-Giuseppe-De-Luca?type=Credits&filter_anv=0

Giuseppe De Luca (1936-1974): He obviously had a business relationship with CAM that surpasses just one number. But as he died young there isn't much information or music of his available today.

If it's not him I wouldn't know who "Giuseppe De Lucia" really is? You won't find that name on Discogs or even Wikipedia.it.

SACEM has the song "Je m'en fiche" also registered, confusingly they spell the name "De Lucia":

"JE M EN FICHE
Sous titre(s) : ME NE INFISCHIO

AYANTS DROIT
1) DE LUCIA GIUSEPPE (IT, Compositeur Code IPI : 18664375
FARALDO VINCENZO, Auteur Code IPI : 9764371
NADDEO LUIGI (IT 1), Compositeur Code IPI : 21943994

SUGARMUSIC FRANCE, Sous Editeur Code IPI : 29865937
C A M CREAZIONI ARTISTICHE M LI S R L, Editeur Code IPI : 4904804
TANK SRL, Editeur Code IPI : 30204548"

SIAE lists the song under the title "ME NE INFISCHIO JE M EN FICH" (ISWC: T-005.408.490-0)

With these right holders:

"DE LUCIA GIUSEPPE (non iscritto) Compositore Originale (CO) CODICE IPI : 00018664375
NADDEO LUIGI Compositore Originale (CO) CODICE IPI : 00021944008
FARALDO VINCENZO Autore del Testo (AO) CODICE IPI : 00009764371
CREAZIONI ARTISTICHE MUSICALI - C.A.M. - Editore originale (EO) CODICE IPI : 00004904804"

If you search for the works of "Giuseppe De Lucia" with the IPI 00018664375 on ISWC's website you get 189 search results.

On the other hand, if you go to ASCAP's "Giuseppe De Luca" entry with "Torpedo Bay Cues", you'll see a different IPI 00018639764, which shouldn't surprise us. ISWC gives 198 search results when you look for "00018639764", that's "De Luca".

Somebody, somewhere clearly must have made a mistake.

On the Italian single Giuseppe's name is also spelled "De Lucia".

I wonder if Miranda Martino's French version has ever been released.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the French version on YouTube. But we have several uploads of the Italian version:

More trivia: The orchestra is conducted by Ennio Morricone who would re-use this song ("Je m'en fiche") in "La battaglia di Algeri" to great effects. (But this very apt selection could also have been made by Pontecorvo, the director.)

Anyway, if you watch the night club scene where the song is used in Torpedo Bay you get a strong feeling the lady doesn't sing "Je m'en fiche" - it's so badly synchronized.

The German GEMA also spells the name "Lucia" in the same way as SIAE and SACEM, but probably you are right and the correct name for the composer should indeed be De Luca who also wrote a few soundtracks released by CAM at the end of the 60s.
Here the GEMA infos:

ME NE INFISCHIO JE M EN FICH 7054313-001

C A M CREAZIONI ARTISTICHE M LI S R L 4904804 Originalverlag
SUGAR MUSIK-VERLAGS GMBH 73059970 Sub-Verleger

Keep in mind that the COMPLETE German version of the film which is on Youtube is asynchronous. The Youtube uploader probably made a mistake when uploading the movie. So it has nothing to do with "bad dubbing".
The Italian version on the other hand which is also on Youtube doesn´t have these mistakes and has been correctly uploaded.

You're right, in the Italian version it's better, the songs works fine.
The German dubbed YT upload is awful, wrong ratio and the audio completely out of synch. Simply unbearable to watch.

Once you start digging it's hard to stop.

Curious how the song "Me ne infischio" is registered in ASCAP's repertory?

ISWC: Not Assigned
Work ID: 430572419
Total Current ASCAP Share: 100%

Writers:
ASCAP controls: 49.98%

- ANELLI ALBERTO - SIAE - IPI 998489
- FARALDO VINCENZO - SIAE - IPI 9764371
- NADDEO LUIGI - SIAE - IPI 21944008

Publishers:
ASCAP controls: 50.02%

- C A M CREAZIONI ARTISTICHE M LI S R L - SIAE - IPI 4904804
- CAM CINE TV MUSIC INC - ASCAP - IPI 52018026

Anelli (born 1944) had his first 45rpm released in 1964, a French EP containing one song he actually co-wrote.
I'm pretty sure, this registration is faulty and Anelli should not be listed there at all.
Giuseppe De Luca / Lucia is not even listed here.

Ne Me Infischio, again.

The Morricone fans over at chimai.com only list Giuseppe De Lucia[!] as composer and lyricist (no other names as creators indicated there, which is certainly incorrect), and, they seem also to ignore the French version "Je m'en fiche" (with the same orchestral background by Morricone) - possibly meaning that the French version has so far never been released on a record:

https://chimai.miraheze.org/wiki/Track_Me_ne_infischio_(id5064)

Of course, Morricone did also the arrangement for "Ne Me Infischio" which was also used in a film called "Canzoni in... bikini" (1963).

"Beta Som" and "...bikini" received their Italian censorship certificate one month after another in the first half of 1963, first in April for "...bikini", then "Beta Som" in May.

The use of "Je m'en fiche" in "La battaglia di Algeri" (1965) is also not listed on chimai.com. And Quartet Records didn't include it on their "complete" edition CD in 2015 neither.
